Based in the heart of Stokes Croft, Bristol, Pip and the Polar Bears are a folk collective complete with uke, glockenspiel, ramshackle percussion and trumpet. Described as ‘kooky folk with a protest edge’, Pip and the Polar Bears beautifully crafted songs marry zesty social commentary with soaring harmonies and buoyant melodies. 

Brimming with percussive rhythms, bouncy melodies and playful protest narratives, Pip and the Polar Bears overflow with colourful mischief. Having grown up in the apple orchards of Kent, climbing trees and drinking tea, Pip then moved to Peckham, South East London, where she played eclectic venues across the smoky city, including the Brixton ‘Ritzy’, Bethnal Green’s ‘Rich Mix’ and Brick Lane’s ‘Rag Factory’. Pip has also played numerous UK festivals, including Sunrise, Waveform and Bristol festival. In November 2011, having released her first EP, Pip set out in a little sailing boat on a voyage across the high seas to Canada. She brightened the snowy streets of Montreal with her golden ukulele melodies, worked on hearty organic farms and hugged giant Sequoia trees in California, before returning to UK where she now lives in the bubbling city of Bristol. Pip’s sound evokes Rodrigo and Gabriella’s percussive beats, Duke Special’s buoyant harmonies and the lyrical zest of Ani Di Franco. This is kooky folk with political punch!
