We are overjoyed to announce our second EP ‘Phase Drift’ with UK-based @sub-basics, available both on digital and 12’’ vinyl. For this second release, we wanted to focus on a single artist while also showcasing the UK music scene. We both share a deep appreciation for Sub Basics’ distinct style which remains deeply rooted in the foundational sounds of drum & bass, dubstep and techno.

Sub Basics lands on Osmura with the 'Phase Drift' EP, the label's second release, following a 2024 V/A featuring Caldera, Bartoli, Atomic Moog, Solma, Birgan, and Shjva. The ‘Phase Drift’ EP opens with ‘Colour’, a high-tempo, percussive, bass-heavy cut blends hypnotic echoing synths with soft, mellow syncopated pads. Up next, ‘Scope’ works a tumbling high bpm percussion over an aquatic undercurrent. On the flip, ‘Splinter’, Sub Basics deftly builds melodies and brings punchy, moody textures to the fore. Finally, the ‘Phase Drift’ EP wraps up with ‘Nt’, a deep, expansive soundscape marked by a chugging groove and gritty industrial reverb.

London-based Sub Basics producer, DJ and Temple Of Sound founder has accumulated support from Ben UFO, Laurent Garnier, Roman Flügal, Kia, Lena Willikens, Tasha and Foundation Audio. Sub Basics’ discography extends to labels such as Modern Hypnosis, Infernal Sounds and Bait, which featured in Mixmag’s 2024 best tracks of the year roundup. The ‘Phase Drift’ EP perfectly encapsulates a unique genre-defying approach to production from an artist on a spiralling upward trajectory. Bait is set to release the debut EP, ‘Hepp’, from Leipzig producer Old Man Crane with four subterranean bass experimentations.
Marking the 16th release on the label since its inception in 2023, the connection between Old Man Crance and the label started via a DM with her demos and blossomed into a collaborative partnership including a spontaneous back-to-back with Beatrice M. at Bassmaessage last year. The ‘Hepp’ EP follows shortly on from Old Man Crane’s first appearance on Bait via the One Hundred and Fifty Steps compilation series and begins an exciting chapter for the emerging artist.

@kamounmusic has developed a signature sound where percussive intensity meets atmospheric depth, blending polyrhythmic drums with modern electronic textures. His fascination for traditional tribal percussion, paired with influences from minimalist field recordings and British bass culture, generates a hypnotic energy that resonates with the raw power of contemporary electronic music.

On 'Wave Prophecy', his first 12" on Dance Data, Kamoun showcases his distinct range - from deep tribal grooves to high-energy dance tracks, Kamoun fuses rhythmic complexity with avant-garde sensibility, forming a unique and addictive sonic palette.

Kamoun - Wave Prophecy EP [DDR009]

Introducing [GIFKIKKER011]. The debut of Blossoms Overnight, that sits you down in a euphoric, soft-tinted atmosphere from the get-go. While vibrant scapes get interwoven, accessed, or accompanied by smooth percussion, the listener is exposed to the act of exploring sounds underneath what’s already there.

Metaphorically, this album is cleansing, as foam gliding over a windshield in a brush-style carwash, resembling crashing sea waves as seen from underwater. It prescribes a mesmerizing softness and dense relaxation, while the mind and soul are carelessly taken on a sweet ride through dubby hypnoticness with breaky features.

Topping off this stellar release is a beautiful remix by a. brehme, aligning with the inner feel of the EP.

"Ok yes… the world is sicker than ever, but that doesn't mean we get to stop.

The past months have seen long overdue eruptions of sadness and rage directed at bloated, militarized, racist police forces and iniquitous government spending around the world. The puzzle pieces are assembling and fresh eyes are examining corrupt practices that Black & brown communities have criticized for decades. It is time to defund the police and invest in communities that have been systemically attacked.

For the third volume of Physically Sick, we are focusing on local efforts and raising money for Equality For Flatbush, an organization that has been fighting racist police abuse and gentrification since 2013. Equality For Flatbush mobilizes direct aid when necessary, recently ensuring Brooklyn residents have groceries and supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Techno, house, and all the sounds at the root of electronic dance music, are born from Black communities. Dance music can only be sustained by an inclusive joy for the marginalized and the dispossessed. As we rally in support of Black lives, the struggles against police violence, and inequality, it is the responsibility of every person, from DJs to dancers, not to let things slide back to business as usual.

Physically Sick 3 is a fundraising compilation from Discwoman & Allergy Season curated by Frankie Decaiza Hutchinson, Umfang, and Physical Therapy. All proceeds from the compilation will go to Equality For Flatbush. Out Thursday July 3rd, 2020 and available exclusively through Bandcamp. Artwork by Jordan E. Moss.
