Quadrant Soundscape presents In Focus: Greyscale

For the second mix of our 'In Focus' series we turn the spotlight onto one of our favourite Dub Techno labels, and one of the most consistent in terms of the quality of their output. We bring to you, Greyscale.

Having begun back in 2012 by Lithuanian producer Grad_U, Greyscale has gone on to play host to some of the worlds finest Dub Techno producers including the likes of XDB, Resoe, Ohrwert, Mike Schommer, Fluxion, Federsen and DeepChord to name a few. 

In 2021, Greyscale introduced us to their 'Mood Compiled', which are 20 track double CD/digital compilations, consisting of 1 track from each of the previous 'Mood Series' EP's release on the label. 
The 1st (#1-#20) was released early in 2021 and the 2nd instalment (#21-#40) was released in the last few days.
The Mood Series itself, was intended to be for up and coming artists around the world, but as the series began, most of them were already the cream of the crop. And without question, the quality of the music was so good, they became some of the best releases in the genre.

2021 has also seen Greyscale introduce us to the brilliant 'Exposure Series'. These releases are where the emphasis is getting the featured artists to vinyl. As we are big lovers of physical releases, this is something we personally have appreciated greatly, especially knowing how difficult and time consuming vinyl production is, yet Greyscale never fail to surprise us with the quality of the vinyl that comes from them. 

Greyscale has always grown from strength to strength, but notably it has been strong from the very first releases. For this mix we wanted to try and highlight these strengths, and also show the diversity that can be found at such a formidable record label.

Real name, Alexander Kotlov. Dub Techno digger. Was born in 1983 in Novosibirsk, Russia. The first acquaintance with electronic music happened 11 years later: in 1994... The first release under the alias "Oldschool_Dubtechno .Producer" came out in 2022, after he successfully completed the producer course at Ableton. The best DAW of all time. DJ with great experience and unusual taste. Music in my heart 24/7 and forever and ever!!"

French producer and multi-disciplinary artist Angel shares this groovy and deep dub techno mix recorded from her home in Berlin with fresh materials from her new EP as well as artists she enjoyed in deep and dub techno.
Born in France, but now a resident in Berlin, Angel began her music career in London where she handled music journalism and promotions for a small bar in the British capital. She then appeared as a DJ in Bali, Tokyo, Bangkok, then back to Europe in Paris, and more recently in Spain, following her travels. As a producer, Angel released the well-received EP “Coincidence/Ambivalence” last year on SLR and released last June 2022 her first dub techno EP "Sous l'eau" on the Stuttgart label, AMAS Studio.
