SNKR025 - Hooverian Blur – Old Gold EP (Snippets)

Asquith is back with a sixth release on his self-titled imprint, turning up the love dial for some piano vibes, heavy techno and cat cuddling on the home ravin' 'Love Is A Mystery'.

The title track is an ode to the aching mysteries of love. A nostalgic piano loop riffs along with those signature power drums and breakbeats, sounding like the ghost of a memory of the 5am rave. Lost in the synergy of two feelings, love and euphoria.

This is followed by the heavy, fast, cannon-techno of 'Risk It All'. Drawing from the current Lobster Theremin stable of influences with it's ecstatic pads and pitched up trance-flecked vocals. All 90's introspection with a dash of purpose and poise in its melodic quality.

The flip-side sees a semi-rerun of two tracks that reared their heads earlier in the year. 'Let Me {Thunder Mix)' gets an even harder tweaked remaster, sounding a touch fresher and deeper than before with its rollicking take on the original taking the track's intensity up a notch.

Finally we have 'Return Of Mountain Dad', a nod to Asquith's sometime house alias but in deadly rave form, which appeared on a digi-only Who's Susan compilation in the Spring. The track takes DJ MD influences and adds the Asquith warehouse touch with a dash of gnarly-ness. Think Venom rather than Spiderman, and swap the rhodes for a super-saw synth!

Bremen native Mystigrix returns to BBC with his own 2-part EP. Two electric originals that channel the modern but classic aesthetic perfectly. Chunky synthwork and classic 90s progressions make these stone-cold killers.

Part two kicks off with of with the harder hitting electro "L'autoroute". The track opens the EP with a frantic arpeggio sequence, it's urgent almost cinematic nature makes for a dancefloor thrillride. Taking things into an altogether more 808 state - DJ ÆDIDIAS drops a bumpin remix, a huge bass drum changes the dynamic of the track whilst keeping the urgent synth work that drives it on.

Getting lost in the music-making process was our way to escape the feelings of anxiety and uncertainty which presented themselves with the emergence of Covid. We had no plan beyond escapism, but a cleared schedule gave us lots of time to explore new ideas. After we'd made a few tracks we started to realize the importance of bringing this music together under one project, a musical reference point for this strange period in time, and so the Isolation Tapes was born - a series of singles we made during lockdown whose titles all begin with a different letter from the word: I S O L A T I O N.' – Audiojack

Audiojack - Transitions

It’s not a secret neither a fortuity that lately Apparel Music has been gold-digging in the French scene to find treasures. Kerim aka @KX9000 the producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist who combines a jazzy touch with Disco and House is unquestionably, from now on, part of this group of golden gems. The way he models his House music in this EP, cruising from dreamy chords and pads to poignant Acid lines and delicate yet concrete rhythmics, from funk to disco-dance is marvellous. It starts with the astounding harmonic evolution of ‘Millennium Civic’, the opening/title track, and moves on to ‘Unusual Lines’ with its caustic, incisive acidities and the graceful but venomous vocal samples amalgamated with some gentle spacey pads. ‘Ace Of Sweets’, the closing tune: a solid beat with a slight taste of old school disco- funk and a joyful, carefree melody with some superb key’s solos to nourish the refined complexity of the composition. The EP also features two fantastic remixes: one from Ground Plane Aerial - @theoramarecords - who’s version of the title track is an incredible modern Disco journey, proper crazy good stuff and the second one from @Paul-Cut who’s remix of Unusual Lines is a Lo-Fi gem. ‘Plaisance Food EP’ by KX9000, out in October, is yet another demonstration of how we intend to keep the musical level of our releases super high, carefully choosing every bit of music to put out there. We hope you’ll like it.
