Pistols at Dawn is a clubnight in Glasgow attempting to do things a little differently.

The craft of the DJ is becoming lost.

In days gone by, DJs like Alfredo, Larry Levan and the near mythical DJ Harvey would enthrall dancefloors for hours, digging deep into their enormous record collections to find the perfect track to play at just the right time.

DJing was an art form. During the course of a set, there would be tempo changes as the DJ set the mood (something that so many modern DJs seem to have forgotten) and there would be a flagrant disregard for any so-called musical genres. Basically, if it worked on the dancefloor it got played. No restrictions

Fast forward to now and oh how things have changed. Everyone and their granny are DJs or producers now and it's never been harder to separate the wheat from the chaff. Aside from a few like minded rebels who we don't have to name, promoters are either bamboozled by the sheer quantity of 'DJs' out there or they have simply become too lazy to do the hard work and find the few people out there who are the real deal among the hoards of mediocrity.

It's no secret that the easiest way to get DJ gigs these days is by making your own tunes. It makes promoters lives far easier. Instead of having to really do their homework to find the best DJs out there, they can simply book someone who has a 'ready made' profile thanks to having made a couple of tracks/remixes/re-edits of their own. Unfortunately a decent producer does not necessarily mean a good DJ or even an average one.

I ask you. Is this any substitute for someone who has a genuine love and passion for playing music? Someone who spends hours digging in record stores and dusty charity shops for hours just to find that one special tune that will ignite a party. Someone who has spent years perfecting their craft and can read tiny little nuances on a dancefloor and respond to them with the perfect tune. Someone who is first and foremost a DJ there to take you on a beautiful trip through a range of emotions

Well that ladies and gentleman is what we are all about at Pistols at Dawn. Amazing music lovingly chosen by real DJs who know their trade inside out and who choose every single track with nothing but the crowd in mind. We have gone above and beyond to bring you the absolute cream of underground DJs with the only consideration being 'can this person work a dancefloor into a sweaty joyous mess?'

Taking inspiration from such clubs as 80s Amnesia, NYC's Paradise Garage, The Cosmic and Typhoon Clubs of Italy and Chicago's Powerhouse and Music Box, we will be providing what we hope will be the atmosphere of the greatest house party you have ever been to coupled with an unbelievable genre defying soundtrack. We want to create a family vibe where people not only go because they know the music will be out of this world, but also because they don’t want to miss the chance to catch up with all the new friends they have made on the dancefloor.

At Pistols at Dawn, expect to hear elements of house, disco, boogie, techno cosmic, italo, Balearic-beat, and anything else that takes our fancy on the night.
