In 1998 I put John Denver’s recital of Kendrew Lascelles’s poem ‘The Box’ to a beat that I made for a track called War. I never got around to recording my lyrics which expressed my concerns about ‘the Wild West’ ‘brewing up a third war’. One of the lyrics, ‘Saddam as a tool… teach you an example’ pretty much summed up my thoughts on the direction we were headed, and which certain ‘mischief makers’ are continuing to pursue.

I recently pulled the only recording of it I have off a cassette, so the quality is pretty meagre. Nevertheless I’ve an idea for the track which has enough space at the end for anybody to record their own lyrics as a protest rap/song/spokenword against further intervention in the Middle East. If not, it’s worth listening to for the sake of John Denver’s recital.

2000 AD. Produced by Bill The Pharmacist from Santa Cruz, who invited rappers on Public Enemy's website forum (The Enemyboard) to collaborate on a track. To his surprise Chuck D and Professor Griff jumped on board as well. They were also joined by Kyle Jason who was at the time working with Griff in Confrontation Camp. I received the instrumental via email (as an mp3), in a method of collaboration which was at that time unheard of. I recorded the vocals in a studio in London, and emailed them back to Bill. Unfortunately the other rappers invited to record didn't meet Bill's standard of quality, so he released it as you find it here. A later remix by C-Doc The Warhammer featured other rappers from the Enemyboard, who went on to form the group The Impossebulls.  

NB. Never told Bill, but he layered my vocal take slightly off... they come in microseconds too early...
