Back-to-School Dub Mix

The first of two unofficial remixes made by WEITER / Cinematique artist @deeparturenl. In his own words:

As for many others, the Shawshank Redemption has always been one of my favorite films. After seeing it again for the first time in years, I was instantly hooked on the musical composition of 'Brooks was Here': one of the main theme's of the movie. The strings and piano combined play a melody that is both beautiful, sad and hope giving. It still hits me directly in the soul every time I hear it. 

It felt like a personal challenge to do something with the theme that works on a dancefloor, without ruining the emotional load ánd without sampling the original. So I remade the strings and piano and only added drums & percussion, a choir and some minor sounds to accompany the melody. A small melody loop of the original score also lended itself perfectly for the intro and outro part. 

In the end, I'm really happy with the end result and being able to play out a version of one of my favorite movie scores during my gigs. I hope everyone else will enjoy my interpretation as well!

Becoming part of the Groove Cartel Family with his rework of the classic "Lola's Theme," Sweden upcoming talent Storgards debuts on the main label with an outstanding EP called "Mono No Aware EP."

Mono No Aware (物の哀れ) is a Japanese term for the awareness of impermanence, or transience of things, and both a transient gentle sadness (or wistfulness) at their passing as well as a longer, deeper gentle sadness about this state being the reality of life.

The EP reflects perfectly this mood. Starting with an amazing progression of sounds, "Vemodet," in collaboration with Anckarstrom, is the opening track of the EP that rapidly goes deep with "Holmen." "Gränden" closes this absolute piece of art with its underground and relaxing vibes, making this EP a truly travel through your soul.
