A masterclass in heady house grooves by Aarhus-based tastemaker C.K. We’ve been pretty intoxicated by the way C.K has put himself on the map. Operating under a cloak of mystery, the Aarhus residing DJ and producer has carved out a little niche corner with his Safe Distribution crew when it comes to making classy and well-thought-out house music - stuff that we personally keep coming back to and consider “timeless” goodness. Just back from his US tour, we caught up to hear about his latest developments.

The NTS radio resident has recently put out a release on one of my all time favourites, @radiantrecords, a beautiful release imbedded with textural & rhythmic play. In his productions & mixes alike, he fuses eastern & western sounds in a unique & exciting way -- with no specific genre & style binding his repertoire.

To kick-start our new solar orbit, Amsterdam's Nera (@nera-ja) has programmed the next instalment of Virtual Utopia. A 90-minute future-space voyage through progressive trance and everything that surrounds. Close your eyes, and know the destination will be great, but the journey much greater...

This program aims to imitate the sensation of drifting consciously into the never-ending centre point of focus. Within the initial section you will be greeted by an artificial-intelligence 'DEEP-DREAM™' avatar who will lift you out of earths stratosphere and into distant realities,  then will guide you through chromatic fractal hallways where yourself reflects back at you infinite times, optimised for introspection.

Tunneling endlessly through squiggly acid lines that travel through you like plasma, a macro-dosed journey through utopian visions and future civilisations,  an interlaced groove keeps this simulation a high-vibe-emitter from start to finish.  Emulating the sensation of travelling through an internet cable, spanning genres but still maintaining light speed progression.

Nera has provided an explorative, espionage mission to discover metallic artefacts of otherworldy materials. Throughout the mission there is ability to discover the distant expanse of the known universe, yet inspect the unfathomable dimensions of whats beyond the molecule.

Strap in and connect to your CIU (Cerebral Interface Unit) - the simulation is about to begin...

An all-star selector who builds sets from the underground up, Chaz is a deep digger, classy collector and all-round purveyor of rare finds and classic tracks from the bygone eras of house, techno, trance, electro and iterations in-between. Having played host to international artists including Kabuto and Mark/Klon Dump under the Syrup Records banner, Chaz is well acquainted with throwing a damn good party. In more recent times, Techworld (run alongside @sandpit_alias) has risen like a technicolour phoenix from the ashes of lockdown to cult-like status. As the scene’s taste for faster tempos grows and accelerates, Techworld offers monthly reprieve from the chaos by taking us back to basics. Good records, long sets, a rotating roster of the country’s finest DJs and a custom ENM Research mixer coalesce (with a few blue drinks) once a month at miscellanea to give us 18 hours of unadulterated afterhours hedonism. Chaz joined me live in the PBS studio for Passing Notes episode 187, but here we are lucky to hear a 1 hour guest mix recorded live at Techworld.

Talia Jimenez aka Tangela is a force to be reckoned with - highly skilled DJ, host of the wonderful ‘Citrus’ on FBI radio and co-founder of a sleuth of boundary pushing events including dstreet, club < and now the newly established minutiae festival. Having these many hats and excelling at them all demonstrates Tangela’s intimate knowledge of her audiences and ability to tailor exceptional experiences accordingly. For dancefloors, that usually means a focus on generating energetic narratives combining enveloping soundscapes, pervasive depth and hypnotic detail to effortlessly guide dancers on spirited expeditions. I first became aware of the Harmony label when they released ‘Natives’ an EP by prolific techno producer Alan Backdrop in 2019. Since this time, I’ve followed their lead, been enchanted by their always impressive musical outputs and enamoured - yet only from afar by their magical parties. Made up of multi-talented individuals, as a collective they coalesce as a group of kindred souls united by a shared wellspring of boundless creativity. Their events are always a spectacle, whether collaborating with the likes of Midgar, Kalahari Oyster Cult and X or running it solo, they have the power and passion to transform almost any space into a uniquely vibrant, community-minded party place. From UNESCO-listed libraries, gymnasiums and forest floors, no event is too big or too out there for Harmony to pull off. Across their music, events and DJ sets, they ooze a sense of profound intent whilst being effortlessly playful. In a world that can sometimes feel unnecessarily, individualistic the Harmony crew continues to shine a light on the power of bringing together our creative minds.

NERVE (RES, A Colourful Storm, Steeplejack) is the guise of Naarm-based electronic general practitioner Joshua Wells. As a DJ, producer and live artist NERVE makes and performs a limitless brand of techno that explores notions of drum and bass, breaks, noise, electro, dark ambient, and industrial. NERVE’s live sets are undeniably body music, steely textures punctuated by drum and bass inflicted rhythm workouts capable of whipping any crowd into a frenzy.
