Hewan Aman is Paris-based DJ, radio host, event and community organiser whose 2024 schedule has been filled with impressive club and festival appearances across Europe. Hewan’s sound as a DJ revolves around a keen attention to detail - power, depth and intricate rhythms often find themselves as the forefront of her sets that span, fast paced techno, drum & bass and hypnotic psy-leaning sounds.

Her radio show and mix series ‘Tentacular’ and follow up show ‘Dub Delights’ on Rinse France have afforded her the space and place to generate this sound and vision as an artist. As Hewan explains it ‘Tentacular’ alludes to “a sprawling devotion to purpose and connection”, a theme that injects itself into the entirety of Hewan’s work. A further recurring theme in conversations with Hewan is intention - a core value alongside purpose and connection that drives her approach to artistry, the music industry, and life beyond. A thoughtful approach that sometimes feels like a rare quality in the fast-paced world of electronic music. Additionally, Hewan is a member of @audeladuclub, a community-based collaborative that promotes a reimagined nightlife with safe and inclusive events and spaces at the fore. The collaborative publish their communique via the ‘Flashes’ zine, which further explores these themes via interviews and articles collected, conducted and published through intersectional feminist lens.

I’m honoured to be airing Hewan’s live recording from @noname_community's La Nature festival - a festival hosting 800 dancing souls in front of a wooden church stage surrounded by Ardenne forest. The mix was recorded Friday 21st June 11pm-1am, so expect a quintessentially psychedelic journey to propel you into the weekend.

The creativity of Forest On Stasys is Influenced by tribal minimalist techno in the nineties and the deepest and most abstract techno currently. In his tracks the most seductive elements are the use of resonant basses perfectly combined with long and reverberated pads, extensive sonorous landscapes that are modified by continuous movement of LFO, solid grooves and strident percussions.

But not everything that comes out of his head is created with an intention to be used on the dance floor. He has a great admiration for drone and ambient tracks, without a rhythmic pattern that predominates, where the main factor is to captivate the listener with melodies that can be marked by a strong melancholy or with notes that give a certain feeling of satisfaction depending on his current mood.

At the beginning of 2019, he released his first  work 'A Vision Of Light' in Danza Nativa, where currently he is one of the pillars of the label based in Buenos Aires.

I’ve long been drawn to the deep, organic and electrifying techno of Japan–inextricably linked to open-air gatherings deep in the forest–so it was very special to play this set in the mystical woods of Nagano’s mountains.

I played after Japanese wizard OCCA @oooccaaa, from 11.30PM-2AM ~ descending into the night and far beyond ✧.*｡⋆

This contribution is a very special one, as it marks a new chapter in The Observatory’s sound… 

We will always be a home for ambient and experimental sounds. But, moving forward, we will also be exploring our love for dance music, with a particular focus on the deep end.

To begin this new journey and warm things up, we are so happy to welcome back Timnah, who gifts us with a two-hour recording of her set at Omen Wapta, ADE’24. A mind-bending traversal through ambient, drone, and halftime experiments, exploring the liminal spaces between the listening room and the dance floor.

Timnah lives, works and feeds the cats in the Northwestern extremities of Switzerland. Brought up in her parents’ jazz clubs and deeply influenced by her brother’s love for dub and soundsystem culture, she started DJing just after the massively feared Millenium Bug had threatened to offset our relation to time and space. Dedicated to drawing her own map of late 20th century sonic landscapes, she spent the early 2000s exploring 90s electronics including breakbeat, triphop, ambient techno, drum&bass, house and jungle. After a short but sweet excursion into producing in the early 2010s, Timnah dedicated herself fully to spinning the wheels and transversing genres, gravitating towards her current signature sound that spans immersive sound baths and intergalactic carpet rides in half-time. Timnah is a member of Amenthia Recordings and a recent addition to the A Walking Contradiction Collective.

Every year, the Delayed family invites its dear friends to a weekend getaway nestled in the lush green mountains of Catskill NY. The Barn has always been a very special place and I've met some of my closest friends and collaborates here. Feel very lucky to be a part of such an amazing group of people. And since this spring we are skipping our bi annual trip(busy life) to the mountain, I could not help but share this recording.

Next up in our mix series is Shoal, a Dutch producer and DJ who recently relocated to Prague. Known for his hypnotic, emotionally layered sound, Shoal crafts deep, transportive journeys through trippy textures, modular synthesizers, and rolling rhythms. A core member of the ISOTOOP collective, he’s performed at leading underground spots like De School, Tresor, and Ratherlost. His releases on labels like Tikita, Harmony Recordings, Monument, our own Ute.Rec, and most recently Animalia, continue to expand and refine his unique sonic voice within the scene.

In this mix, Shoal delivers a 1.5-hour live set full of acid-dripping techno, spacey atmospheres, and heads-down minimalism. It’s a slow-burning, carefully building mix that captures the raw live sounds and subtle depth that define his sound. A live-set working just as much the mind as the body.
