Next up, a very special international guest and inspiration of mine, Sybil (@syberkid). Sybil has an impressive track record of pivotal parties and festivals under her belt - Berlin Atonal, Berghain’s Säule, Fabric, Honey Soundsystem and Timedance all come to mind. However what’s perhaps even more impressive is the way that Sybil approaches her time in the studio. Sybil’s mixes have landed on platforms such as Discwoman, Dimensions and Crack Magazine as well as her own ambient outlet, Deep Mind Music. 

Sybil’s style of DJing really resonates with me. On the one hand, she creates wonderfully immersive soundscapes, textured collages of meditative and deep ambient music. She’s equally adept and commanding a dancefloor with high-energy, euphoric techno and trance leaning sounds. Of course, Sybil touches on the energies in between, but there’s an undeniable symbiotic relationship between her duality of styles - achieved through a common transcendent quality of both. Regardless of style, Sybil’s mixes are inherently thematic, guided by visual concepts and narratives which are inspired by her “very synesthetic relationship to music”. Sybil’s creative approach to DJing, deep love for music and inimitable ability to craft a story, mean whichever avenue she takes you, you know you’re going on a journey through space, time and texture. I had a wonderful time connecting with Sybil from abroad, all the way from London about all this and more for episode 157, 18-03-2022.

I am super excited to present the next @deepmindmusic_ mix, a special edition crafted by Australia's @pjenne. A DJ with an intuitive ear, Pjenné's mixes have always made a deep impression on me, through her thoughtful track selection, immersive world-building and clear narrative arcs – and her mix for Deep Mind Music is no different 🤍

I experienced this mix as one fluid motion: through the course of an hour we billow outwards, and drift inwards, in pulsating undulations. As the rolling waves of circular rhythms, dub techno and fluttering wisps floated through me, I felt as if I had become one with a towering cumulonimbus, expanding and contracting as I drifted across a pristine sky ☁️🦋💠

Pjenné has managed to strike a subtle balance between quiet softness and infinite depth in this beautiful and evocative journey, taking us deep into the beyond. The mix ends with an ascension to a bright and delicate twinkling, like a sparkling sunset on the sea, and we're left feeling warm, pensive and peaceful 🔆🌥️🕊️

Some words from Pjenné about the mix: 

I was inspired by a sound I used to be particularly into during my formative years – I remember buying the Deepchord Silent World double LP at Spacehall in Berlin during my first overseas trip. It was long, long before I was a DJ, and I was too scared to play any records in-store, as I didn't really know how turntables worked, and had no idea how record stores functioned. Although I bagged that winner of a record (which I still own and play today a decade later) I also remember accidentally buying some sampling records that I had absolutely no use for... Can't say it was the most inviting place back then...

Anyway, although the mix was inspired by that sound, it ended up completely different during the process of putting it together. Of course, I had to weave in some form of uplifting resolve by the end.

To kick-start our new solar orbit, Amsterdam's Nera (@nera-ja) has programmed the next instalment of Virtual Utopia. A 90-minute future-space voyage through progressive trance and everything that surrounds. Close your eyes, and know the destination will be great, but the journey much greater...

This program aims to imitate the sensation of drifting consciously into the never-ending centre point of focus. Within the initial section you will be greeted by an artificial-intelligence 'DEEP-DREAM™' avatar who will lift you out of earths stratosphere and into distant realities,  then will guide you through chromatic fractal hallways where yourself reflects back at you infinite times, optimised for introspection.

Tunneling endlessly through squiggly acid lines that travel through you like plasma, a macro-dosed journey through utopian visions and future civilisations,  an interlaced groove keeps this simulation a high-vibe-emitter from start to finish.  Emulating the sensation of travelling through an internet cable, spanning genres but still maintaining light speed progression.

Nera has provided an explorative, espionage mission to discover metallic artefacts of otherworldy materials. Throughout the mission there is ability to discover the distant expanse of the known universe, yet inspect the unfathomable dimensions of whats beyond the molecule.

Strap in and connect to your CIU (Cerebral Interface Unit) - the simulation is about to begin...

One would only have to indulge in Priori's impressive back catalogue to attest to his consistent quality but evolution of style and creative flow. Seeing Francis play multiple times on his recent tour to Australia really cemented all of this for me.- one of the best in the biz!
