When I first read The Platform Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch, I always assumed Huineng’s verse was superior. Later, Master revealed to me: The opposite of "wrong" isn’t "right"—only when duality dissolves into the "unity of opposites" (一合相), beyond all conceptual division, is truth revealed.

The song Two Verses, One Moon draws inspiration from Zen history’s most poetic debate:
Shenxiu’s verse:
"The body is the Bodhi tree,
The mind a mirror bright.
Polish it diligently,
Lest dust alight."

Huineng’s reply:
"No Bodhi tree exists,
Nor stand of mirror clear.
Since all is void from the start,
Where could dust appear?"

In the song:
Verse 1 embodies Shenxiu’s disciplined cultivation,
Verse 2 channels Huineng’s sudden enlightenment,
The chorus merges both into the unity of opposites.
