We continue to introduce you to new names and today we have Manta - an artist from The Hague, Netherlands with a selection of exclusively his tracks that are not released yet and are waiting to be released.

Which artists has influenced you the most?

- This is really quite diverse, I listen to lot's of different artists, obscure and more known artists. Listening to a lot of the old Tumpett label tapes right now but also the whole ecosystem surrounding Drexciya (UR, Dopplereffekt, Zyklus, DJ Stingray and various Stinson/Donald releases). If I would describe the music style I make it would be an exploration in EBM and new beat sounds blended with (Detroit) electro and ambient soundscapes. One of my all time favourite releases is Autechre - Tri Repetae.

What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- Still working on it!

Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?

- My current playlist is quite diverse - from electro, ambient to doom metal. Right now I play a recent release on Brokntoys from Non Punire called Espeletia.

What inspires you now to create music?

- Mostly the machines I work with. I create all my own sounds. If I don't feel inspired I usually create my own presets on different synths and these can bring me in a certain atmosphere / vibe and suddenly a new track is finished. 

What set-up do you use when creating music? 

- I sequence from Ableton Live and use hardware and software 50/50. The Prophet 12 is used a lot, this is a dark beast but really requires programming to get the most out of it. I have some vintage synths such as a SH2 which I use often for basslines, Juno 60, MKS-50 and Korg ex8000. I exploit the reverbs from the Ensoniq DP/4 quite a lot.

Aliens was produced over a span of 10 years by Eugene Black fo ©specimenrecords_2023 Paul Rip is one of London’s original acid house pioneers, responsible for the seminal Clink Street parties in 1988. By 1992, he was running Plink Plonk Records with Mr.C, one of the UK’s most reliable sources of house-inflected techno, as well as recording for the label as Krypto and Underground Science. After leaving the label in 1998, he explored multi- sensory art and electro-acoustic music before forming Specimen Records in 2012, which continued the Plink Plonk ethos online. Now under his production name Eugene Black - Black Arts Circus and celebrating a rare 12-inch EP "Neuromancer, Paul still swims in the deep electronic waters running below Detroit as machine clouds of Carl Craig/Basic Channel textures swirl over the hypnotic groove of Tetracyclic for nearly nine minutes. Motor Neuron reaches further into deep space, while dub reggae inflections creep into the heaving swells under the slower ‘Ether’. Massively worthy of support and essential for lovers of great classic techno in its purest form. (Kris Needs - Electronic Sound issue 27)

Four more lively, lovely electro offerings from Plant 43, the second in a limited edition series of EPs focussed on tracks written over the course of the winter of 2022/23. Opener (and our premiere) 'Submolecular Shifting' is bright and bubbly, joining the dots between Kraftwerk and Model 500, while 'Eccentric Elliptical Orbit' follows on slower and more grandiose, echoing early New Order's icy cool synth sounds. 'Encased' has a more otherworldly Aphex-like feel, although the juddering, on-off bass keeps it plugged into the dancefloor. 'The Forgotten Storm' closes proceedings, more low key again and graced with ethereal, adding angelic choirs. Energised enough and streamlined enough to be good dancefloor gear, but expertly executed and, as ever, brimming with enough personality to be a decent home listen as well.
