In early 2020, Place of Burning, the Wexford synthpop artist, heard an eery voice carry down Grafton Street.

The voice belonged to Chilean-born, Dublin-based busker, Francesco Parodi.

Carolyn, the result of the duo’s collaboration, is a song about desire, jealousy and infatuation-turned- tragedy.

A song about ageing through relationships; how our attachment to a partner creates a bond that makes the pair strong but leaves the individual weak and vulnerable to the loss of that partner. The singer speaks to the partner she has lost. She remembers the youth they had and struggles with letting him go.

A solemn synth set behind an eerily plucked guitar create a mood of sadness that matches Rachel’s tone while a soft and sweet build from violins offers a glimmer of hope.
