Badman (pronounced that way, with a Jamaican accent) is a word that was originally used in Kingston, Jamaica, in the 1980s ska and in Jamaican dancehall cultures. The word was used to describe an antisocial, illegitimate person, a rebel who was feared by those around him.
After the integration of Jamaican culture with UK culture in the 70s, the word "badman" became widely used in the UK, especially in London and the Southeast.
The words badman and, very rarely, badgirl are also associated with UK music scenes such as jungle, grime, dubstep and sometimes big beat.
