Respected producer, DJ and sound designer Alex Banks presents his third studio album ‘Projections’, returning to Max Cooper’s Mesh imprint. The work follows up critically acclaimed releases on Modeselektor’s Monkeytown, Ninja Tune, where he remixed Bonobo, and his sublime sophomore album ‘Beneath the Surface’ from 2019.

Produced in his studio in Brighton, UK, the album is an immersive nine-track masterstroke covering the gamut of electronica, techno, breakbeat, bass and IDM, fit for clubs and home-listening alike. The project was born in the early stages of 2021. With little outside stimulation to draw inspiration from, Banks
invested in new gear including a Moog Matriarch, DFAM and a host of Eurorack Modules - and set about immersing himself in the possibilities of his new semi-modular synths. In terms of sonic reference points, he found himself in new territory, too. “Usually going to a club night, or concert, or even the
simple things in life that you take for granted all feed into a melting pot of things that inspire me to create. But without these, I instead found myself drawing on memories of experiences, and imagining new ones for the future to come. I began to feel like these were projections, almost like memories of experiences I had been projecting via the music I was creating,” he shares, adding that memories of clubbing trips to Berlin, London and Brighton fuelled his vision for the album.

Furthermore, the seclusion we collectively experienced allowed Banks to philosophise on the nature of human connection, which fed into the album concept: “I started to think about how during our period of relative isolation, we are all projecting into the digital ether, searching for a connection in an increasingly virtual world where shared human contact and experiences have
become scarce.”

Vessels' original incarnation for "Elliptic" was quite something. Not normally known for their forays into electronica, the rock band's new direction could have sent them down the one way street to oblivion. Instead, the outcome was 8mins of true hypnotic bliss; sounds that were custom-built for that eyes-shut, euphoric passage on the dance floor.

The band’s 3rd album Dilate was recently signed to Different Records and gets re-released in 2016 with a caboodle of extra edits and remixes. One of those remixes happens to be by Ross Tones aka Throwing Snow. Grounded, or should we say lifted by that same somniferous feel, the makeover is amped by a puffier drum and low-end backbone. The movement is transformed from starry-eyed rapture to head-nodding beatitude — music for the mid-night rush and beautifully done at that.

Moroder/Shockne – Memory String (Plaid Remix)

Following two radical reinterpretations earlier this summer from Truncate and Yaleesa Hall, which earned plays from Roman Flügel, Laurent Garnier and Ben Sims to Dusky and Huxley; Kamera’s ‘Ventoux’ EP is further expanded with two remixes that tastefully expand the producer’s original vision of uncompromising body music.

Throwing Snow’s remix of title track ‘Ventoux’ deconstructs the bright, IDM inspired anthem into something equally frenetic yet utterly different. Punchy live drums begin to escalate over a deeply satisfying electronic snarl, recalling Throwing Snow’s noted fascination with post-rock, while maintaining the tempo with naturally evolving elements of industrial and EBM.

Meanwhile, festival and club favourite George FitzGerald, delivers a blistering remix of Consignia, one of his personal favourite club records in recent times. Here, FitzGerald continues his masterful streak of production, knowingly blending the somewhat menacing machine throb of the original with a suspenseful bassline, eventually culminating in a heavenly, ethereal breakdown, one that’s certain to leave bigger rooms in throes.

MESH presents the remixes of Rob Clouth’s Transition EP, due 16th March. 

Berlin based sound designer Ben Lukas Boysen offers an immersive, glitchy take on ‚Transition’, whilst Brecon presents a steppers remix of ‚Silica’.   Max Cooper turns ‘Shedding Layers’ into a funk driven swirl of harmonies, followed by Tokyo sound artist Chihei Hatakeyama’s ethereal ambient take on ‚Silica’.

Plaid (pronounced \ˈplad\) are the London based electronic music duo Andy Turner & Ed Handley. They are two of the founding members of The Black Dog, releasing their first EP in 1989 and signing to Warp Records in 1991. They have used many other pseudonyms including; Atypic, Repeats and Balil, but have focusing on Plaid since 1995. They have released 11 studio albums as Plaid, from 1991's 'Mbuki Mvuki', to 2022's 'Feorm Falorx'. 

Various sources claim they took their name “Plaid” from the Welsh word for “Party”.
