Since their BBC Maida Vale session for Steve Lamacq in 2012, Soccer96 have been wowing rock, jazz, electronic and all kinds of audiences with their frenetic yet devastatingly tight live sets.
On ‘Jupiter Masterdrive’ the London synth and drum duo further hone their blend of jazz, prog and electronica within the confines of brevity demanded by the 7” format. Recorded direct-to-tape over a few heady sessions, these tracks bear the palpably unfolding, organic beauty of improvisation and live recording while conveying ever deeper levels to the pair’s musical and artistic vision. The band recorded these pieces in constant experimentation with their tape machine, trying different approaches and techniques for each track; this is a small glimpse into the process and a tantalising sample from an expansive body of recordings.
‘Constellation’ creates a drugged out, noir-ish setting with its sighing melodies and enigmatic cadences but the booming kicks and pistol-crack rimshots swagger through exotic back alleys, taking pot-shots in the murk and gloom. ‘Flight Formation’ recalls the most jazz informed reaches of Detroit techno, so much so that house maestro Glenn Astro couldn’t help but offer up an extended DJ-friendly edit. The earthy, melancholy bassline threads its way through a percussive crescendo while hypnotic, interlocking keyboard patterns cycle steadfastly in the background. ‘Step Overs’ lurches into being, all its disconnected drums assembling and lining up like a firing squad to deliver a barrage of beat-blasts, resulting in a spandau ballet of synth spasms.
This release is not just the sound of immensely talented players exploring their shared chemistry and technologies. Instead it could be seen as a manifesto for how to successfully use live instruments to interpret today’s myriad strands of electronic music. And it fits in perfectly with WotNot’s own mantra of focusing on innovation and imagination to deliver music that stimulates and delights.

He's celebrating the release of his 5th album 'The Curved Line' which is out this week on his own Drut imprint. Music on offer from Milyoo, Drew Gragg, Delroy Edwards and Koehler & Kuno in his mix and he had this to say;   

"Opening with a track from the beautiful new album by CFCF, this is a selection of the more mellow end of stuff I've been playing out recently, with plenty of kick drums and a track off my new LP thrown in for good measure. I guess I think of it of of a bit of a warm up set - I actually really enjoy playing in a club at that early, potent, time of night - playing to people filing into an empty room and watching the atmosphere build."

Merging the worlds of hip-hop, R&B, and electronica, Sweatson Klank is leading the charge to put a little soulfulness back into the music industry. Formerly known as TAKE, Tom Wilson re-emerged as a sultry, sexy composer oozing with passion and deeply devoted to injecting story back into the electronic scene. Coming up as a pioneer in the beat scene, Wilson's alter ego Sweatson Klank takes the moody soundscapes of beat and floods it with emotion and guest vocalists and rappers who can provide the  sort of open-heart elocution the backing tracks demand. Today's premiere of "15 Bucks" with rapper Doc Illingsworth traffics in the sort of personal monology that makes up You, Me, Temporary, Wilson's third, full-length album. The honest poetry of Illingsworth, coupled with the sparse synthwork sets the tone for what it is to be a broke artist hustling to keep up with work, relationships, and a dog-eat-dog lifestyle trying to bite your ass. The album, which will be released via German label Project: Mooncircle, is coming out as three vinyl LPs sprawling across 25 tracks featuring plenty of bonus instrumentals. With the release date set for April 2nd, we look forward to the variety of textures expected with this latest Sweatson Klank offering.
