Linking back to a shared history that saw Krust (alongside Roni Size) remix DJ Krush’s ‘Dig This Vibe’, and also provide their own track ‘Tribetoon’ for the seminal ‘Headz 2’ compilation, both on James Lavelle’s label Mo’Wax, now the influential DJ/producer/A&R delivers arguably his best ever work under the UNKLE alias: This is deep breakbeat goodness which sounds both classic and perfectly now.

A sonic son of Krust, fellow Bristolian Hodge works ‘Constructive Ambiguity’ into a proggy new school breaks monster that carves the original’s metallic bass into sharp new shapes, whilst West Country royalty and Wild Bunch founder Milo Johnson AKA DJ Nature provides wigged-out Martian house by way of New York – which, in one of Krust’s many thematic circles – echoes the Latin-tinged, blunted science of Nu Yorican Soul’s classics ‘Mind Fluid’ and ‘The Nervous Track’.

The room buzzed with activity and life, the roar of machines and the shouting of voices back and forth was enough to give anyone a headache. Each phone seemed to ring louder than the last as the calls came pouring in to the station one by one. Each operator was put in a perilous position, it was only the sound of their voice which might lead to a resolution to whatever tragedy had struck on the other end of the line. She observed the scene from the corner of the room with a nervous smile.

Longstanding providers of quality machine funk from Norway, Tromsø-based imprint Beatservice Records has been spanning a wide spectrum of genres throughout its 25 years. Returning this fall with a remix compilation featuring local talents Third Attempt, Lakeshouse, Jarle Braathen, Kohib, Flunk plus more.The first single out of the gate comes from Third Attempt, real name Torje Fagertun Spilde, originally from Asker just outside of Oslo. Now established in Tromsø, he is one of the young forces in the rising new generation of electronic producers from the birthplace of the Northern Disco Groove.
