Mixed with the same undeniable weight and power, the hammering, insistent ‘Black Dog’ skirts with darkness before upending it with vintage Detroit keys, waves of euphoria rolling out of the gloom to move the dance.

Planet E looks to the heart of Detroit’s club culture for the debut appearance on the label from Motor City mainstay, Mister Joshooa. A DJ and sound engineer closely intertwined with the city’s music scene, regularly found behind the decks at clubs like TV Lounge and Lincoln Factory and having previously appeared on Carl Craig’s celebrated Detroit Love compilation, ‘Settle Down’ introduces four tracks that cement Mister Joshooa’s lucid, far-out take on house.

Lead track ‘Settle Down’ distills the energies and influence of the scene into a rubber-jointed, rolling introduction that vibrates with energy and anticipation, nailing a bassline that could run for hours and injecting trippy effects, live percussion and out-there vocals drawing in dancers. ‘Snake Oil’ meanwhile strips things way back, squeezing plenty of juice for the floor from a tunnelling, lightly psychedelic arrangement, offering bang-for-buck deepness that’s no scam.

‘Stop Me’ continues to drive Mister Joshooa’s productions in even wonkier, even mysterious directions, its oscillating crawl and hypnotic melody primed to create a heady atmosphere, giving surreal or even sinister, depending on each dancer’s perspective. Finally, ‘Step Up’ offers the roughest, readiest ride to close, where classic drum machine programming reverberates against throbbing sonics and all manner of analogue weirdness, transforming into an outsider techno stepper from the darker side.

Across a rolling nine-minute odyssey of old-school but future-facing jack, the Klassik Mix of ‘Ancestral Rhythm’ finds the pair tapping into their most uncompromising rhythmic instincts, melding the tough machines of their studio with organic percussion and oscillating plunges into raw, escalating electronics.

In complimentary fashion, Carl Craig expands on the original for a subtle, tight edit, roadtested in Ibiza and beyond over the summer season. His C2 Edit sharpens the original’s frenetic edges, while adding another chorus of chants to Shelby and Loveless’s psychedelic incantations.

Her Women on Wax collective and label have sought to champion Black female artists since its inception in 1996. DJ Minx is a recipient of the Spirit of Detroit award for her contributions to the city's cultural landscape, and was named as one of the 20 Women who Shaped Dance Music by The Black Madonna and Mixmag. One of Carl Craig's most iconic and influential early productions gets an official digital release for the very first time, newly remastered for 2025.

Taken from Jean-Cosme Delaloye's forthcoming documentary film, 'Desire: The Carl Craig Story', which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in 2024, 'No More Words' is a classic C2 production originally released in 1991 that became one of Detroit Techno's foundational tracks, capturing the emotive synths and tight grooves of Carl Craig’s sound that would soon resonate across dance floors worldwide.

No More Words (2025 Remaster)

A quarter-century after its original release, another gem from Carl Craig's extensive back catalogue is released digitally for the first time as part of the soundtrack to Jean-Cosme Delaloye's film Desire: The Carl Craig Story.

'The Truth', originally released as the B-side to Problemz in 2000, is a deep cut from Craig's archive re-edited & remastered for 2025. It captures the iconic Detroit techno producer in the meditative mode associated with his 69 classics 'Desire' and 'At Les'.

Its release teases the forthcoming soundtrack album where it features alongside the recently reissued classic 'No More Words' and Craig's Grammy-nominated Junior Boys remix, as well as other essential tracks from the Craig discography.

@planetedetroit presents ‘Mother’, a four track EP from Slum Village co-founder, former Bling47 label boss and current head of the Dirt Tech Reck label, @waajeed. The Detroit native has worked previously with Theo Parrish, Mad Mike Banks and Amp Fiddler, and in 2017 held a residency at Detroit Love parties across the globe.

‘Mother’, featuring Detroit singer-songwriter Steffanie Christi'an, is driven by an arpeggiated synth lead above shuffling percussion and heartfelt vocals, whilst ‘Earth’, a collaboration with the enigmatic Blaktony, takes a moodier turn with stripped back drums and syncopated keys. ‘Obba’ rides a melodic bassline into the cosmos, whilst ‘Frances’ offers a soothing dose of otherworldly disco funk.

Additional mixing on the EP was provided by Planet E head Carl Craig. 

Waajeed premieres his live show at Movement Festival in Detroit on May 26th 2018, at the Detroit Love stage.

‘Packard’, the title of which is inspired by parties in the historic Detroit power plant of the same name, establishes an unrelenting energy from the get go. A bouncing kick lays the foundations for rolling synths, unnerving vocal samples and delicate piano refrains to wander. ‘Anna’ is an indulgent nod to the catwalk, marching with intent amidst immersive chords and subtle melodies.

The B side hosts a trippy cut full of interplanetary glitches and melancholic harmonies. Drawing upon hints to the extraterrestrial, ‘Marx’ creates a dizzying swirl with glistening textures.

Carl Craig was sold straight away: “When Tom sent me his demo of ‘Packard’ I knew I wanted to release it on Planet E. The mix of looped electronics with soul of the piano brought me back to when I first heard the post-Disco classic ‘Beyond the Clouds’. I can imagine the kids on The Scene rockin' hard to this.“

Detroit Love present the second release on their eponymous imprint – a collaborative venture from Planet E and !K7 that aims to capture the essence of Carl Craig’s beloved event series.

Following last year’s inaugural mix from Stacey Pullen, the second entry has been skillfully assembled by Carl Craig himself. Across a hazy, funk-driven voyage, he delves into the spirit of his hometown, championing the past and future of the motor city into an expertly curated mix.

With a blend of 90s gems and brand new exclusives, Carl’s track selections forge an atemporal vision of quintessential Detroit music. Included in the mix are two rare, early 90s classics from Ectomorph and Rhythim Is Rhythim, neither of which have been reissued on vinyl for decades, in addition to a 2015 collaboration from Carl Craig and Green Velvet, never before released on wax.

New material comes in the form of an exclusive Carl Craig edit of DJ Minx, another exclusive from Claude VonStroke, tracks from TV Lounge affiliates Ataxia and Mister Joshooa and unheard music from Matthew Dear under his new Brain alias, to name a few.

Whilst Carl's name might be stamped on the mix, Detroit itself takes centre stage. The number of exclusive tracks reflects his commitment to crafting a unique listening experience, but the spirit of the city shines through in the diversity of his selections, which range from modern classical crossovers to American garage rock via a healthy dose of soul-drenched house and techno.

Carl launched the Detroit Love parties in 2014 as a way of representing the city’s heritage across the globe. Extending this mission to the label, Detroit Love Mixed By Carl Craig is an impassioned homage to the musical legacy of his hometown.

Following contributions from Carl Craig, Stacey Pullen and Wajeed, Swiss DJ and producer Mirko Loko steps forward to curate & mix the latest volume of Planet E’s compilation series celebrating the international legacy of the Motor City's electronic music heritage, Detroit Love Vol. 4. Active since the late nineties when he first began DJing in the clubs of Lausanne, Switzerland, Mirko Loko has always felt a deep connection to the music of Detroit. Having been personally invited by Carl Craig to play at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2001, that connection has stayed consistent and electric ever since. Mirko Loko is also known as a Cadenza mainstay and a curator of Verbier's Polaris Festival, but the music of the Motor City has been the guiding force of his creative career.

Released on digital and vinyl formats, Mirko's selection offers a taste of Detroit that intermingles emerging talent and the deepest cuts from established heroes. Mirko has loaded the mix with exclusive productions & remixes including new collaborations with Derrick May and Ursula Rucker; an updated version of his classic recording with Stacey Pullen, ‘Tronic Illusion’; an exclusive remix of Japan's Takuya Yamashita; and a new track under his Bel Air Ltd alias.
