RP Boo returns with 'The Ultimate', showing off six brand new cuts that mix a range of styles with his vivid use of samples and improvised drum programming. 

'The Ultimate' kicks things off with a sliding synth riff that wouldn't sound out of place on a ’91 Prodigy track with cut up rave vocal interjections over Bu’s trademark pulsing bass. 'Bang with the Funk' crushes the 1-2-3-4-5 Sesame Street song, chopping its samples into hard shapes. Things turn dark and minimal with 'The King' which features a sample from Fresh, with strange atonal tones playing off against spooky chords and a tactile bass.  

On the flipside 'What Am I?' pairs syncopated snares and 4/4 bass pulses while percussion bangs and shimmers over clipped diva refrains and anxious piano. 'Bu'Moon' meshes together some pumping horn blurts and some old fashioned steamy synth wooshes that wouldn't feel out of place on a 50's sci-fi film into a relentless battle track. 'Electric Energy' finishes the EP, sampling an unusual pop source and chopping them over pulsing half time subs that pitch up and down around slipping and sliding drum hits.

Off the back of their first release, a multi-genre compilation featuring artists originating from six different countries, the Pitch Rider team are set to launch their first solo EP from Slick Shoota. The Norwegian is arguably the most respected juke producer to originate from outside of Chicago due to his high octane, larger-than-life approach to 160. His unique take on the genre which incorporates jungle and rave references hasn’t gone unnoticed, with productions being picked up for release by a range of labels including Mad Decent, Apothecary Compositions and Amy Becker’s TRX.

The title track kicks off the EP in hypnotic style, with vocal samples that seem to veer slightly off-beat just to come right back in sync with the barrage of kick drums, toms and snares hits that underscore the track. Shoota’s approach to production on ‘Do Right’ is reminiscent of that used in early grime tunes. The texture of the track constantly changes as elements are quickly dropped, brought back in or pitched up an octave throughout.

B-side ‘Hivemind’ sounds like an early Ridge Racer soundtrack on steroids with its glacial and trance-like lead synth. Slick Shoota throws a light-hearted curveball into the mix by peppering the track with what can only be described as the sound of bubbles popping essentially. The EP is rounded off with ‘Radium,’ a pacey and syncopated affair littered with stuttering claps and multiple key changes to keep ravers guessing. If there’s one thing we can count on when it comes to a Slick Shoota production, it’s that you’re always going to have a hard time predicting what’s coming next.
