With her impeccable ability to design techno tracks that keep the party goin' long & strong from night til dawn, Shay De Castro dazzles listeners with heavy kick right from the beginning along with driving sub basslines, spectacular synth and fx sounds that beam from the lefts to the rights giving an atmospheric essence to the track. All leading to exceptional drops that fill in with 4/4 drum rolls and hypnotic piano melodies that are later introduced on the peak of the track, making a resounding impact and generating results that listeners can't get enough of.
Joined by the sensational underground talents of Giacomo Stallone for a remix of Shay De Castro's latest cut. A relentlessly entertaining approach of the track in a more raw techno mood. Fast rhythm filled by fat sub kicks with open hi hats on the lifting, bringing an old school feel into the track. An exploratory use of the original synth sounds and synths blended with disorted, reverted rhythmic effects and some brilliant breakdowns making it perfect for the peak hour play.

Continually pushing the boundaries of Techno, Soma label heads, Slam, deliver yet another huge release in the form of The Age Of Intolerance EP. With the their Soma25 project in full flow the duo are not content to sit still and are constantly evolving their sound and continuing to help shape the sound of techno in 2017. 

A monster opener in the shape of My Machine 909 opens this latest EP, a staple in recent sets from the pair as a proper, to the floor 909 workout hammers home. Venit sees Slam approach things form a more hypnotic and looped out angle as mesmerising tones lead the way, slated across concussive drums. Caveat springs into action from the get go, powered by thumping low end and electric synth hook, this sees Slam continuing on a heavier, more dance floor orientated theme. The duo once again display their prowess on the production front as title track, Age Of Intolerance, a broken beat, almost contemplative track closes out the EP.

Wrapping up the twelve tracker are ‘Wiggle’, a wild track of the winner of this year’s Beats in School competition by Beatport and Second State, and the label’s mainstay BEC’s instant hit ‘Three Words’, resulting in a finely curated package that will deliver in any moment.

Techno DJ and producer Michael Klein has been consistently putting out solid work for years, a habit that has made other DJs – among them Richie Hawtin, Chris Liebing and Laurent Garnier – look to Klein’s releases as reliable fodder fit for a variety of moods at any given party. 

Born in Frankfurt and trained in classical piano as a child, Klein cut his clubbing teeth at the likes of Robert Johnson and Cocoon. He then moved to Berlin where he cultivated his dark and groovy sound, assisted by his studies in sound engineering, and earned a residency at the beloved, now-closed Stattbad. Klein is prolific but versatile, and these qualities come to the fore on his latest release, the Hoisin EP for Second State.

The title track, ‘Hoisin’, is a shapeshifter, switching gears from mesmeric, winding bass and rhythmic bleeps to minor, eerie builds, cheeky drum rolls, and more energizing chords. ‘Bite’ is more urgent, kicked along by impatient percussion and an acidic bass burble. ‘The Signal’ is the EP’s biggest moment, destined to be a highlight of not just Klein’s sets, but others’, too. It has the atmosphere of a ‘90s Bristolian rave, with a whomping stomp, beguiling bass and the odd vocal yelp adding era-specific authenticity. ‘Hollow Night’ demonstrates how deftly he can change moods. Here Klein retreats into something darker and more insular. A kick joined by circular chords creates a claustrophobic but compelling inner world. 

Klein is a highly valued member of the Second State family and recently contributed an excellent exclusive track for Amelie Lens’ fabric presents mix. He’s been something of a secret weapon in the techno community for years, but while his music prefers to live in the dark, Klein’s profile is, deservedly, coming into the light.

A blistering buddy to the first instalment of Pig&Dan’s ‘Tunnel Vision’ EP will land in April. 

Not one to rest on their laurels, Pig&Dan have come out firing in 2020. One of the techno genre’s most prolific artists, their 17 year has seen a wealth and consistency of output unmatched by most in the industry. This is exemplified by the ‘Tunnel Vision’ series launched on Drumcode this year.

Set for release just one week after its predecessor, part 2 continues in powerful, peak-time mode. ‘Sirenism’ is a tour de force, driven by a pulsating lead that pops with acidic undertones. ‘Rinse Out The Sound’ is an intoxicating blend of warbled effects, warm synth layers and crisp drum work. ‘Perception’ is marked by an exuberant top line riff and steely percussive layers and makes for a colourful addition to any set. ‘Wasted’ is muscular techno at its finest, finished with a glistening layer of melody. No surprise the collection went down a treat at Warehouse Project, Drumcode Halloween and Dockyard Festival, among others. The duo are in irresistible form.

Christian, alias C. Clearly, discovered his enthusiasm for electronic music in the late 1980s when wave, punk and EBM were still played on the same night in independent clubs in Germany. When techno became popular in the early 1990s, Christian spent his nights dancing and partying in Frankfurt clubs like 'Omen' and 'Dorian Gray'. Yet he didn't discover the turntables until in his 50s. In his mixes, electronic and techno appear in a variety of ways - melodious at times, or grooving, but usually straightforward and with a driving beat. Mind your breathing - and enjoy the beauty of the present moment.
