💓 🌞 💓 Hello my dear friends 🌞 💓 🌞 💓

This week for the Sunset Lovers, one of Vienna’s finest diggers, and first Disco / Edits exports, DJ, producer, and record collector from Austria, Mike Burns will grant us an insight into his current musical dwellings.

It's still winter here, so this mix is a soundtrack for a little dance into those darker and cooler sunsets. It's full of spaced-out 90s slo-mo groovers with a cosmic vibe, bargain bin b-sides, a couple of obscurities, and some classics, thrown in for good measure.

The DJ from Vienna has been driven by a singular passion for almost 25 years now, that of course, being music. Music that draws you in, takes you for a ride, and brings you back home. Music dripping with funk and radiating euphoria. Music out of the ordinary and music that simply puts a smile on your face. Notoriously enthusiastic about playing records, it's this energy he tries to share in his mixes and on any dance floors willing to engage...

His career started towards the end of the last century soundtracking bars with the mellow "Vienna sound" during the week and playing raves on weekends. By the mid-2000s, his obsession with the vintage sound started taking overhand, leading him to explore all things cosmic and disco from around the world. 
Over the following years, a monthly show at Vienna´s first online radio, the now defunct play. FM and a string of disco edit releases gained him some followers around the globe. In recent years he's been most known for his excursions into the tropical sound, which he featured in countless mixes, parties around Europe and his Club Majik night in Vienna. Post-pandemic he is still in search of that perfect soundtrack for the moment, albeit a little darker and more electronic, at least for now...

His benevolent mixing skills and thoughtful, vinyl-heavy selection, and his amazing collection of disco-oddities and leftfield afro/latin/boogie 7″s and 12″s have given him the reputation of a true Disco connaisseur.

In between turning out parties in the state of Michigan, he runs an amazing channel on the tube, hips us to mega jams every other day of the week, accepts packages as our US postal address and was the link to making PT002 our next record dropping in early Jan a reality. A middle finger to the systemic racism that exists in Brazil and the world via friend and talented selector/digger Gustavo Aquino dos Reis @gustavokeno who delivers a beautiful mix celebrating the rich diversity and deepness of Brazilian Music. Some words from Gustavo below and the context around the quote he added to the start of the mix. 
 
Brazil is beautiful.

However, this same Brazil is also equally racist. Between the sunsets of Ipanema and Copacabana (Rio de Janeiro) there's a reality where black people are victims of a daily and violent structural racism.

The introduction of this mix is an excerpt from a documentary made in 1970 called "Documento Especial: Os pobres vão a praia" where a young woman from Rio de Janeiro argues that all the blacks who frequent the beaches (Ipanema) are rude and, consequently, a sub-race.

So, 50 years later, this mix is an answer to that.

O meu Brasil é lindo.

Porém, esse mesmo Brasil também é igualmente racista.

Nas entrelinhas dos pôres-do-sol de Ipanema e Copacabana (Rio de Janeiro) existe uma realidade onde pessoas pretas são vítimas de um diário e violento racismo estrutural. 

A introdução do set é um excerto de uma reportagem feita em 1970 intitulada "Documento Especial: Os pobres vão a praia" onde uma jovem carioca argumenta que todos os pretos (pobres) que frequentam as praias (Ipanema) são mal-educados e, consequentemente, frutos de uma sub-raça.

Esse mix é uma resposta pra ela.
