Bastian Bux strides into 2024 with an impressive three-tracker on Jamie Jones’ Hottrax. 

Bastian Bux was hugely busy in 2023 with standout cuts on his own Neverendz label, having already impressed on Eats Everything's Edible, elrow Music and Cuartero's Sanity. He hails from Barcelona and has shown himself to be endlessly creative in the studio - each new tune shows an evolution in his sound, whether vocal, deep, tech or beyond. Now, almost a decade into his career, he has played everywhere from Tomorrowland to Encore Beach Club in Las Vegas, and he now opens the year with a superb three-track EP on Hottrax. 

The punchy 'Dunns' kicks off with tight, clipped tech house drums and chopped-up vocal stabs that eventually turn into streetwise bars drenched in attitude. 'Dat Beat' is just as fresh and sure to get crowds in a swat with its hardcore house grooves and twisted synths spraying about the mix. Throw in more well-treated vocal fragments and a fat bassline, and you have real club dynamite. Completing this essential hat trick is 'Howyalldoin', a more playful cut with a sun-kissed vibe thanks to its soulful male vocals and funky bass riffs.

With over two decades of experience in the electronic music scene, Clarisse Records label head Mendo has been stamping his groove-led sound across top labels like Knee Deep In Sound, Crosstown Rebels, and Defected. Previously appearing on Jones’ label for remix duties for Danny Tenaglia’s ‘Don't Turn Your Back’, the Geneva-based DJ/producer now returns alongside fellow Swiss artist Yvan Genkins for their first collaboration in seven years. Known for their dynamic synergy, the pair combine Mendo’s warmth and emotive precision with Yvan’s raw, punchy energy to deliver their latest EP, ‘Everybody’, landing on Hot Creations.

‘Everybody’ opens the release with deep, funk-laced strings, sparkling percussion, and tough kicks that set the stage
for a rousing club track. ‘Chakaboo’ then takes over with rumbling bass frequencies, enhanced by a modular flair, rolling hi-hats, and tricky, shifting rhythms. To close, ‘My Precious’ explores a more textured sound, weaving together layered drum kicks and groovy, trippy synth stabs over an upbeat, playful house groove.

After appearing on Hottrax’s ‘Jams Vol. 1’ alongside Yolanda Be Cool and Fast Eddie, he now steps up for a solo return and delivers three dynamic cuts mixing old-school vibes with new-school energy. 

“This EP was really inspired by Jamie Jones’ sets—the music he plays, the energy he creates, and the tracks I love to listen to and play myself. Up first is ‘Hands Up’, a slinky house mood with punchy beats and warping rhythms vibrating through its core. ‘No Paramo’ follows, injecting a playful funk with rolling percussion and crisp bongo accents, nodding to his Brazilian heritage. Closing out, ‘Keep On’ strips things back to a refined, understated groove, balancing deep bass tones with smooth, effortless movement.
