The sixth album by Emile Facey under the Plant43 moniker and the seventh release on his Plant43 Recordings imprint since its inception in 2020, Sublunar Tides is his most expressive and stylistically wide ranging to date. Over 52 minutes and nine tracks the album takes the listener on a journey through dancefloor electro, meditative experimental synth improvisations, cosmic techno and the powerful emotional album closer ‘Tides Align’.

The album finds Plant43 in a world that exists between the English countryside he now lives in and the live club and gig culture that he has been separated from due to ongoing covid-19 pandemic. He draws on his feelings of missing the city and the vibrant energy of its club's spaces, feeling in the middle of this headspace and the peace and meditative nature of his home.

“Having moved to the countryside in 2019, the music on Sublunar Tides is equally inspired by the natural surroundings I’m lucky enough to live in but also a longing to return to the city and live gig/club culture. It’s been 20 years since I started making music and I found myself going back to the things that originally sparked my love of it - original 80’s electro, breakdancing and body popping.

“While the last year and a half has been extremely challenging in many ways I am incredibly grateful for the support people have shown me and the success of the label is truly heartwarming. Growing up I was inspired to create music, art and film and so building a space that can act as an output for all these things is a dream come true. Since launching Plant43 Recordings in 2020 as the pandemic gripped the world and performance opportunities fell away Emile has found the support of his followers and the platform of Bandcamp to be a lifeline. Anyone who has had even half an eye on the electro scene over the past decade will already be familiar with Emile Facey aka Plant43’s unique sound, mixing an uncompromising approach to off kilter rhythms and machine-led funk with an emotive and powerful use of melody. This trio of ultra fresh tracks were penned for recent live shows in The Hague and Berlin and are brimming with the energy and excitement Facey felt on his return to the live circuit. ‘Remote Signals’ is led by a booming kick drum heavy enough to command any audience, with Facey weaving ever more complex webs of melody around it. ‘Searching The Skies’ builds a mysterious atmosphere based around a call and response between characterful melodic elements while ‘Constantly Morphing Entity’ closes the EP with a flourish of forward moving beats and an SH101 bass line designed to rock any dancefloor.

The third part of the Mycology series sees Emile Facey expand the earthy and deep electro sound world he forged with the first two instalments. Alongside the emotional dancefloor journeys we expect from him, each side of the record concludes with an experimental, beatless piece that conjures a twilight walk discovering fungi in the UK’s ancient woodland. Unfolding over 30 minutes, the six track mini-album sees Plant43 returning to the veteran electro label AC Records (this marks their 39th release) who present their catalogue in great style. Mycology 3 has a hand-stamped sleeve and comes in both black and a beautifully ethereal misty green, semi-transparent vinyl which reflects the mysterious atmosphere of the music and its mycological inspiration perfectly.

Reflection | Reaction is a trilogy of EP’s written by Plant43 over the course of winter 2022/23, the first in the series marking the 10th release and third anniversary for the artist’s Plant43 Recordings label. Edge of the Wood

Emile Facey lives in Penge, South East London. ‘When writing this music I became very interested in the history of the area I live in, imagining what it had been like when the ancient Great North Wood was still standing and the now busy urban area was a tiny hamlet sitting at the edge of a vast forest. I read that Penge was first recorded under the name Penceat in an Anglo-Saxon deed dating from 957 and that many historians believe the name of the town is derived from the Celtic word Penceat, which means "edge of wood". The Porcupine Meadow and a toll gate were important landmarks in the area.’

First inspired by Kraftwerk and the Street Sounds hip-hop compilations in the early 1980s Emile was hooked on electro from an early age. In 1998 he started promoting electro events in London and connecting with other producers and DJs from the UK and abroad. This led to him building his first bedroom studio and, after a few years of learning, honing and recording, Emile’s Plant43 project saw it’s first vinyl release in 2006 on the much-missed Ai Records. Since then he’s released nearly 100 tracks on many highly respected labels including Frustrated Funk, CPU, Semantica, Shipwrec, AC Records, Bleep43 Recordings, Cultivated Electronics and Trust.

He is also a graphic designer, illustrator and co-founder of bleep43.com, which is dedicated to celebrating electronic music. Since 2002, Emile has played live alongside DJ Stingray, ERP/Convextion, Surgeon, DJ Overdose, Urban Tribe and many others.

‘Edge of the Wood’ is the first release on new label Eudemonia. Emile explains, ‘In early 2017 label owner Sascha reached out to tell me about his dream, starting a record label which allowed the artists the freedom to express themselves musically and visually but also to give something back to society, with a proportion of profits going to Musicians Without Borders, an organisation using music to connect communities in war torn countries. I have really enjoyed collaborating with him over the last year and we have created an EP which features tracks and imagery which I hope meet our objectives. I have poured all of my emotion and energy into this project and am very proud to be the first artist to be released on Eudemonia.’
