Old Air

Just in time for the midsummer festivities, a still-warm sacrificial offering from multi-instrumentalist Bristol stalwart O. G. Jigg (AKA Will Memotone).

His latest drop is a taut quest with plenty of twists - channelling icy dungeon synth, children's television (think Willo the wisp and other semi-terrifying yet nostalgic psychedelia), neolithic jazz and folk horror.

Every year, before the corn leaps - the villagers gather on the distant plains of Avon for their midsummer.

On this day, they sing of a lone bard with the talent of many - who travelled from temple to tavern to dungeon telling of icy wastelands further afield, undead-infested tombs, child-eating river hags and of times when Sarum stood tall.

As they Serpent dance around the bonfire, they sing his fabled song:

''Where are all his arms?
And, all of his hands?
And, how does he conjure such magical lands?
O. G. Jigg! O. G. Jigg! O. G. Jigg!''

This is his tale...

BEST AVAILABLE TECHNOLOGY - ‘Broken Teeth & Dog Hair’ x ‘Old Haunts’ (PLAQUE02)


For its second instalment, Plaque presents a two-part offering from Portland’s Best Available Technology. ‘Broken Teeth & Dog Hair’ is a 14 track digital album diving headfirst into the archives of some of the producer’s steady craftsmanship over the last decade.

Once submerged skeletal hands tug at faded granular beats, throwing up densely clouded-sonics from which beneath famished forms awaken from long silted tombs. Glimpses of these sonic phantoms and smouldering red-eyed dutchman often materialise before tracks again shift focus and press onwards with the uncertain path ahead. Sloping further into ever inebriating fog, it’s a gradual descent which continues to churn up the fossilised remains of old beat tapes and evoke many other nostalgic ghosts along the way. 

Its companion piece 'Old Haunts’, a 40 minute cassette-artefact, is the craftsman’s own personal guide through the same realm (although perhaps more a guided meditation or healing tape of sorts). His experience treads lightly the same path and holds up a torch to expose the intoxicated delirium of its counterpart. This illuminating tool is best utilised before embarking on any such quest, at the onset of the gloaming or against the eventide of some lifted journey to this in-between realm.
