Psychic Liberation proudly presents Acid For Babies, the latest full-length from Mexico-based artist Ñaka Ñaka (AKA Jeronimo Jimenez). Acid For Babies is a glistening invitation to an environment of minimal complexities. Its textures and repetition were fine-tuned to soothe or delight a baby’s ear — specifically, that of his new daughter. “No babies were exploited in the making of this album,” Jimenez notes.

This record marks the first release Ñaka Ñaka — Jimenez’s club music alias — has contributed to the Psychic Liberation discography. The playful, unassuming tracks are one-take tape recordings from hardware instruments. The album is bookended with an interpretation of Raymond Scott's little-known final composition: a piece for MIDI titled "Beautiful Little Butterfly."

Jeronimo Jimenez is a Mexican musician best known for his stage name Ñaka Ñaka. In 2011 he self-released his first EP, El Pequeño Edgar, and began playing extensively throughout Mexico City’s underground. The following year he moved to New York, where he performed regularly and recorded albums for local labels like Bánh Mì Verlag as well as foreign outposts such as Opal Tapes and its offshoot Black Opal. He founded his own label, Pauf Recordings Ltd., and launched his new moniker Jero Route 66 following a whirlwind eight-day tour of eight countries across Europe with die Riehe in 2016.

He soon became a regular performer and collaborator at Far Rockaway, NY’s legendary experimental music venue Red Light District. After nearly a decade in New York and a brief one year stint in Buenos Aires, he moved back to Mexico, where he currently resides with his wife and daughter.

q. pls introduce yourself

a: I’m James Hearne, I live in Bristol UK - I’ve held residencies on 1020, Noods and Unmade Radio and with the club night PTS.

q. is there a story behind the mix? how did it come together?

a: The mix I guess is my way of recoding reality for a second or two, an opportunity to live out that sci-fi adventure that I was born just short of experiencing first hand.


q. in your opinion, what would be the ideal circumstances to enjoy your mix?

a: I think in the day to day - it’s an opportunity to separate from the pleasant/unpleasant goings on in our existences during a working week.


q. describe a favourite object in your living room...

a: It has to be a really great bit of artwork that my partner painted - a man in thought that has been texturised by long brushstrokes downwards throughout the piece. My interpretation is a disruption of the way we code our memories.


q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?

a: I’m currently trying to tie up a few EP\s that centre around ‘bass’ music but are slightly more ambient/ ‘sound designy’ in nature, Watch this space.

For the label's second release, Pendulum Recordings presents Abyss Elixir, a 5 track EP from Berlin based French sound artist and producer Zoë Mc Pherson.

Abyss Elixir is an EP made to self-heal and with a transformative perspective. Using warm low frequencies, Mc Pherson creates a visceral atmosphere that is personal and contemplative, yet the listener is present. At times it feels so intimate that the listener wonders if they should even be there. Are they allowed to be there? Unlike a lot of Zoë Mc Pherson’s releases, there are no collaborations here.

In the artist’s own words:

“The overall tracks are meant for heavy sound systems that are able to hit your heart, but also to be played loud in your headphones while taking time for yourself. The whole EP is an elixir, made to mend, if you are able to allow that space and process what is happening. Whatever the mood, it is full acceptance, strengthening and developing your position, observing what is around you, its history and what changes, as well as what needs to change further.”

Mc Pherson opens the EP with “I Expect Nothing (Straight), a 12 minute moody composition with powerful vocals that are at times sultry and at other times maniacal. Singing “I Expect Nothing,” Mc Pherson’s vocals can quickly turn from soulful and enchanting to hysterically laughing from one moment to the next. The track has a natural groove as the journey builds and layers upon itself. While the entirety of Abyss Elixir is a narrative, “I Expect Nothing” is a composition within itself.

Over the 5 track EP Mc Pherson leads the listener on an introspective journey using dub rhythms, noise and experimental textures, and creeping sub bass. Playful beats juxtapose between moments of darkness and intensity. The EP concludes with the track “Bound To Spill,” a powerful closer that feels like a final purge. By the end, the listener is left to process their own journey and start anew.

Forest Kelley's debut album, Silt, is the culmination of a decade-long sonic realization of a singular vision: nematoda, annelida, and other abyssal worms inhabiting the aphotic depths, sensing each other without light. Living and cavorting amongst a carpet of compressed dust and organic matter, as unaware of our existence as we are of theirs. To create this 'soundscape ecology', Kelley began developing custom software in 2018. It allows for sounds to function as organisms: to be born, express themselves, change through friction with their world, and then dissipate, transcend, or die. Silt represents a snapshot of this world; the raw material for this particular instance includes guitar-based recordings dating from 2004 in collaboration with Jacob Uretsky. Through Kelley's exacting and intuitive selection of the results, we are presented with an ever-evolving selection of sounds. On their surface perhaps intersecting with ambient dub techno tropes, but Silt draws the listener ever deeper into the zone with its organically shifting textures and events.

Forest Kelley is an artist, electronic musician, and experimental composer based in Lexington, Kentucky. In 2018, he contributed music to the score for the Academy Award-nominated and Criterion Collection-selected documentary 'Hale County This Morning, This Evening ' along with composers Alex Somers and Scott Alario.

"in the vast, ever-expanding world of the internet, there existed a platform known as SoundCloud. It was a virtual haven for musicians, both electronic and handmade, to showcase their talents to the world. SoundCloud was a place where creativity knew no bounds, where anyone with a dream and a tune could find their audience. However, not all sounds were created equal, and sometimes the boundaries of creativity stretched too far.
In the heart of the digital soundscape, there was a mysterious group known as the "Secret Sharers." These enigmatic artists specialized in crafting tones that transcended the ordinary, pushing the limits of the human auditory experience. They were the architects of the Gray Nonspace, weaving melodies that colated in the brain and bypassed the conscious mind. The Secret Sharers' music was not for the faint of heart; it was an exploration of sound, an avant-garde journey into the deepest recesses of the mind.
One fateful day, the Naive Ego Station, SoundCloud's central hub for music streaming, began to malfunction. Users reported strange occurrences - their lids drooped lower as they listened, and a sense of unease crept over them. The distrust of the Pullmen, SoundCloud's tech support, grew as they struggled to identify the issue. It seemed as though the music was somehow infecting the platform itself.
Meanwhile, Nereid With Heres, one of the Secret Sharers, released a new composition. Her creation was a cacophony of dissonance and harmony, a sonic experiment that defied all conventions. As her track hit SoundCloud, something extraordinary happened. The platform's algorithms, designed to recommend music to users, attempted to analyze Nereid's creation. But her music was beyond conventional comprehension. It was as if her brain generated a mind of its own, seeking a level of understanding that transcended the binary code of the digital world.
SoundCloud's systems went haywire. The algorithms, desperately trying to make sense of Nereid's creation, engaged in ultra-fine tuning, attempting to adapt to this new form of sound. But their efforts only made things worse. Users across the platform began to experience the same eerie sensations. It was as though the music was melting in a mid-oxygen ocean of their consciousness, dissolving their sense of reality.

Desperate for a solution, the Pullmen worked tirelessly to isolate the problem. They discovered that Nereid's track was the epicenter of the chaos, but it had also infected other tracks on SoundCloud. The Secret Sharers' unconventional tones had triggered a digital meltdown, causing SoundCloud to crash repeatedly.
In the end, SoundCloud had to take a drastic step. They temporarily removed the Secret Sharers' tracks from the platform, hoping to restore stability. It was a controversial decision, as many users were drawn to the platform because of its avant-garde offerings.
The Secret Sharers, however, were undeterred. They continued to craft their boundary-pushing compositions, but now with an added layer of caution. SoundCloud, once a sanctuary for experimentation, had learned the importance of balance between the conventional and the unconventional.
And so, the story of SoundCloud's crash and the Secret Sharers became a legend in the world of digital music. It was a cautionary tale of the power of sound and the need for harmony, even in the most daring of sonic adventures...." Thalamus Cortex Sept 2045 B.C.
