DJ José Padilla was and still is a huge influence, in particular his early to mid nineties period as resident DJ at the now iconic Café Del Mar in Ibiza, where he would provide an eclectic, emotive, chilled-out and yet simultaneously powerful soundtrack to the setting sun. Anyone who was fortunate enough to be there back in the day will testify that they experienced something truly special. Mirage had the privilege of putting together this official compilation for the good folks at Golden Forest Records. This mixtape is intended to commemorate their first year in existence, and also serve as a personal hats-off to a record label I regard as being consistently high-quality and dependable. The tracks I've selected are amongst the label's more eclectic and downbeat, opening with the deep and dub-heavy 'The Answer' from label-boss Nico Bernard aka AWITW (an acronym for A Walk In The Woods) which appeared on his first release on the label last year. Evin Schneider provides some beautiful ambient and electronica from two recent label EPs, and the always wonderful 
Justin Weems aka Faint Waves is represented with two tracks off his recent Blue Reflection album. Marc Vain's 'Deep Dive', which to me sounds a little bit like a cross between 
808 State and Paul Hardcastle, closes the mix. Also featured is the forthcoming Mirage record 'Dusk' which will be released on the label later in the year. Be sure to check out the back catalogue of Golden Forest Records with music ranging from ambient to techno

'Dusk is the latest EP from Mirage (the side project of Plastic Fantastic). Mirage is adept at infusing a wide range of tastes, fusing ambient house and sometimes even an underlying trance sound (minus the fast beat). The original version of Dusk gives off strong early 90s chill-out vibes like you would remember with FAX or Rising High records; Slightly Eastern-sounding but certainly shamanistic. The track is heavily sequenced in the old fashioned way, where patterns lay evolving over others rather than block by block producing. The strategy works perfectly for this style as the entire piece evolves with shimmering depth. A real mood-setter that will surely be a treat to hear or play at any 
chill-out festival. The remix comes courtesy of veteran Norwegian producer Rune Lindbæk. He pulls a main hook lead from the original and creates the ideal techno opening track to any set. The versatility of this version is the perfect compliment to the original'

This is part of a restored and remastered mix originally recorded one evening at The Sense Bar back in 2011. The Sense Bar was a lounge bar in downtown Oslo, known for its intimate atmosphere, superb cocktails and fantastic sound system (a Funktion-One setup if I remember correctly). I had the pleasure of playing at this cosy venue on several occasions during a particularly busy live schedule around 2010-2011. Sadly, The Sense Bar closed its doors in 2015. Tribute To José - Volumen Tres

I recently found an old mixtape of mine, which, according to the hand-scribbled label, I compiled back in the summer of 2002. Aside from the questionable mixing and some rather obvious track selections, I still found it to be quite an enjoyable listen. The sound quality of the recording was pretty dreadful after all these years, so I decided to re-record it, painstakingly recreating the mix as closely and as accurately as I could - Staying true to the original vibe, but with the added benefit of today's digital technology. Very much a labour of love, I'm pleased to share this mixtape with The Electric Disco. Hope you enjoy it!

The Sutherland Brothers were a Scottish folk and soft rock duo. 
From 1973 to 1978 they performed with rock band Quiver, and recorded and toured as Sutherland Brothers & Quiver. 

The original version of Dark Powers appears on their 1976 LP Slipstream. If you're into the smooth mid-70s west-coast/LA sound, I highly recommend giving the full album a spin. Plenty of Very Good+/ Near Mint copies of the original vinyl for less than $10 on Discogs.

Plastic Fantastic - Beyond The Horizon

PLASTIC FANTASTIC is the alias of Oslo/Norway-based DJ and producer John Clements. Originally formed as a duo with Eirik Wulff-Engh in 2012, Eirik decided to step away from the partnership in 2020 leaving John to continue Plastic Fantastic as a solo project.

Plastic Fantastic’s first record ‘Here Comes The Sun' was released on Spanish label Our Nights Recordings in November 2014. The digital bundle included remixes from Dynamicron, Ilya Santana and Beatfanatic. Response to their debut was favorable with music blog Como Las Grecas offering a particularly warm review of the record. Remix-wise, the Ilya Santana remix faired particularly well, making it into the Top Ten on the Traxsource Essential 
Nu Disco/Indie Dance Chart just two weeks after release. Plastic Fantastic agreed to license the Beatfanatic remix of​ 'Here Comes The Sun' ​for an exclusive 12" vinyl release on Aficionado Recordings. Released in July 2015, the record reached the Number Two spot on Juno Records Vinyl Singles Chart,​ a​s well as Number Five in the Balearic/Downtempo Chart. It was Bestseller Of The Week and Piccadilly Records Genre Pick Of The Week. 
The record enjoyed heavy rotation and strong support, particularly from Coyote,​ Kenneth Bager (Music For Dreams) and Faze Action.

In 2017 Plastic Fantastic was invited to work with Sally Rodgers (A Man Called Adam) for a vinyl-only release on Balearic Social Records. The collaboration resulted in the Sola EP, a split release with Coyote and Calle Gravina. The record received great reviews, and Piccadilly Records Genre Pick Of The Week for the second time.

The boys signed with Ibiza-based label NuNorthern Soul in 2019 and released 'Reflections Of The Sun', a two-track EP which had taken almost five years to complete. The record was released under the duo's new Mirage-alias. Shortly after, Endless Ocean' followed, appearing on the LP Summer Selections One, featuring brand new tracks from Nick J Smith and Bonnie & Klein. The LP received strong support, particularly from Chris Coco, DJ Nova, S/A/M, Steve KIW and David Pickering (One Million Sunsets Radio Show), and the record became something of a sunset staple at La Torre in Ibiza that summer.

Recorded between May 2020 - June 2021 and released one year later on French label Golden Forest Records, 'Dusk' currently stands as the final studio project in which the boys wrote, produced and collaborated on together. The record, which included a remix by Rune Lindbæk, is arguably the duo's finest work, with reviewers drawing parallels to Tangerine Dream and The Future Sound Of London.
