This session was definitely a pre-party to our Soulection 3 Year Celebration! We had a packed house at Kbeach with plenty of good vibes flowing. In fact it was Joe's first time meeting Lakim in person after all these years. This is Lakim's first time out in L.A. so we wanted to make sure Lakim was welcomed properly. We had him drop a quick preview set on the radio show and talk about his forthcoming album "This Is Her" a little. We also had Andres drop a quick set to switch up the vibes, After Andres, we had Sunni Colòn & J-Louis both come on and preview some remixes that we've been putting together. So much talent in one room. Big ups to Marvel Alexander and shouts to everyone who came out to our 3 year Anniversary party. It was massive and hectic at the same time. Stay tuned for our announcement to our new Soulection monthly.

So many good things have been going on in our world but sometimes it is overwhelming. However we just take a deep breath and keep it moving. This week Joe Kay wanted to slow things down a bit and just focus on the music by going solo. Joe started off with some nice neo-soul/Dilla-esque vibes and then progressed into some progressive beats to get your energy flowing. Standout artists to look out for are LOSCO. These guys have a heavy, heavy sound. Just wait til you hear. As the show progressed the engagement via social media was massive and a few people randomly requested to hear a Sango tribute so we did one! It felt good to be back after being away from the studio for 4 weeks. We've been traveling for the past month spreading The Sound of Tomorrow at SXSW, WMC, and now Asia. The pros of being away for so long meant that Joe stacked up on plenty of music for the past month which makes up for the lost time, trust. There is too much to say and talk about but shout out to all of the amazing people who came out to our shows to see and connect with us. We are very grateful! 

Next week Joe Kay wiil be @ Coachella but that won't stop Soulection Radio this time. Stay tuned.

About this mix:

This week I've decided to let the music do the talking. It's a 2 hour mix with no talking. Recorded in pitch black darkness, with only the glow of the CDJ's and the Serato screen on my laptop lighting the room. It was recorded in one take with no planning. Just playing where my mind takes me like any other radio show, but without the presenting part.

I've been feeling increasingly detached from the music industry in recent times. Working all hours trying to discover new music, tweeting and updating facebook pages to let people know about my findings and the releases they amount to on Terrorhythm eventually. Tirelessly ploughing through emails all day long. Trying and failing almost every week to make things happen and attempt to build something from the ground up again. With all this interaction and a mounting workload I am feeling increasingly solitary. I ask myself questions every day. Is this worth it anymore? Does anybody care? Do these statistics and numbers actually matter to me? All I'm seeing is statistics. Numbers. That's not why I got into this industry. 

There is a real and increasing reality that I might not be doing this for much longer. My relationship with music feels like being head over heels in love with somebody who doesn't even know you exist. I guess this is me putting my heart on the table right now, in hope that some good will come of it. Let's strip away the bullshit and be honest with eachother, it's unhealthy bottling everything up. 

It was like therapy recording this mix and I hope you enjoy it, particularly given the dark atmosphere throughout. This ultimately was something I had to do for myself, so if anyone else enjoys it or connects with me on it then that is a bonus. 

If you do enjoy it, please share it. This may only look like an additional statistic on the screen, but it opens the door of opportunity for me to do something substantial.

With an eclectic and skillful approach to production, and a forthcoming album out 5th May 2017 on a very well respected record label (not sure if we can say which label quite yet), it just shows the amount of work and effort he's putting into his music, I'm very excited to hear what else 2017 brings this producer.

Since Plastician's blistering Wavepool 2 compilation last year, many have been wondering how long the wait would be for some brand new music from the man himself.

Fast forward almost a year, and he's ready to drop 7 brand new tracks on Terrorhythm, in what is his biggest solo release of new music on the label since his critically acclaimed debut album "Beg To Differ" in 2007.

"I wanted to pick up where Beg To Differ left off", Chris Reed tells. Across 7 tracks, his Grime & Dubstep roots are still audible, with a healthy influx of Wave influenced numbers to boot, this really does feel like a view into the mind of Plastician some 11 years on from Beg To Differ, minus the now legendary shellings of Skepta & co.

Whilst the Grime vocals are noticeably missing from this outing, Reed explains this was out of choice this time: "I'm sat on 4 or 5 vocal tracks as well as a couple of straight up Grime instrumentals. I've toyed with the idea of adding them for months on end, but the energy was just not quite correct next to the bits I've stuck on".

Plastician tells us the Grime bits are to be held for their own release in the near future following "Overdue", an E.P. named due to the lateness of the release, as well as an ode to his two children who were born beyond full-term pregnacy.

Overdue drops on August 20th, the week of his son's 4th Birthday, and 11 years on from the release of "Beg To Differ"

Chris Reed, also known as Plastician (formerly Plasticman), is a Producer / DJ from Thornton Heath in the London Borough of Croydon.

Plastician is unique in that he is respected as one of the true pioneers of both the Dubstep and Grime genres. Although these days, he is reputed for selecting from a broad range of bass heavy styles.

He plays a weekly radio show on Rinse FM, and is noted for being the first DJ to play tracks by Emalkay, Joker, 12th Planet and countless more to date.

In 2006 he spent 18 months on BBC Radio 1, making him the world's first DJ to have a specialist dubstep and grime radio show on national radio.
