Plastician Presents - The Wave Pool MMXV

In 2015 a style of music came to light that was seemingly spawned out of Soundcloud. This sound is something created by producers with an ear for emotive, ethereal soundscapes, often drawing influence from rap productions. As big as the basslines are on much of the tracks in this mix, it's apparent that a lot of these songs are not built with the club in mind. With producers as young as 14 in this mix, it's pretty easy to see why that would be the case given many of them have never stepped foot inside a nightclub. 
In 2015 it's easier to get hold of a copy of FL Studio or Ableton than it is to get your hands on a set of CDJ's, so not only are many of these tracks not built for the club, many of them are not built with the DJ in mind either. Intros with odd numbers of beats, and even intros with filter rises all the way to the drop are not uncommon. But as awkward as it can be to physically mix these tracks without the aid of pre planned ableton sessions or some form of bpm locking, it is a sound that cries out to be recognised on a global scale, away from the comfort of Soundcloud, and therefore has really grabbed my attention in the past 18 months. 
I put this mix together to highlight some of the amazing talents and tracks that I've managed to pick up mostly on Soundcloud or on Bandcamp. This is a truly independent movement far removed from the mainstream music moguls. It is music built in the purest of senses. I present this mix to you in hope of opening your ears to some of the most exciting producers I've come across sprawling Soundcloud on the hunt for raw talent.

18 months on from the now legendary DJ mix "The Wave Pool MMXV", Plastician presents the much anticipated follow up mix, this time with an accompanying 29 track album of the tracks included within. 

The question asked of the first mix was whether or not a new sound was emerging out of the internet - 18 months on, and countless great productions since, this collection of tracks from some of the Wave movement's key players and new blood seeks to gain approval of the Wave genre's arrival. 

Including tracks from Klimeks, Kareful, Skit, Sorsari, Deadcrow, Anubis XIII, Hnrk, Noah B, Brothel and more - it's clear to see that this compilation has called upon some of the scene's most noted producers to stake it's claim. 

Mixed and curated by Plastician whose Rinse FM radio show was the platform for this movement to be brought to the attention of the wider public, as well as his Survey parties in Phonox being the initial club night at which this scene established itself outside of the internet - this album is another statement from the man that this sound is not trying to disappear into obscurity any time soon.

Chris Reed, also known as Plastician (formerly Plasticman), is a Producer / DJ from Thornton Heath in the London Borough of Croydon.

Plastician is unique in that he is respected as one of the true pioneers of both the Dubstep, Grime and most recently Wave genres. 

Always reputed for selecting from a broad range of bass heavy styles and seeking out the genres that emerge from between established scenes.

He plays a monthly radio show on Rinse FM, where he has been credited for breaking many artists and collectives on his show, some artists who had their first plays on his shows include Joker, Om Unit, Klasey Jones, Mura Masa and countless more.

In 2006 he spent 18 months on BBC Radio 1, making him the world's first DJ to have a specialist dubstep and grime radio show on national radio.
