Space Disco '20

Authenticity was hard to come by; the way they dressed, the way they talked, their opinions on everything — it was always the same. They mirrored one another, stealing the most interesting parts of culture, news and the arts and packaging it as their own opinions and thoughts. They'd never strived for originality; they barely knew themselves...

It's almost a year on since Lisbon imprint Magic Carpet took their first steps into the label world. Since their inaugural outing from Berlin-based producer Phyzikal Flex, they've added a second from Baby Rollén and now their on to lucky number three courtesy of Bristol's Ramu. Marking his debut EP, it's comprised of three tracks that call out to the dancefloor, working together elements of breakbeat, electro and jungle all wrapped up in dreamy atmospheres.

Following a series of memorable appearances on Casco’s Music Control and Bordello A Parigi, @misspluginn teams up with Norwegian cosmic disco veteran @jarlebrathen for a double dose of Italo Pop on @funnuvojererecords. Get your fill of the record's b-side "Girls Of The Night" that has just the right amount of hard synths to bring us back to the electro cosmic sound of the early 2000s.

Happy release day! Vienna-based Jorkes is one of the underground's most unique house and disco innovators thanks to a series of standout releases on their own Freeride Millenium label as well as Live At Robert Johnson, Aux, Permanent Vacation and more. The Animal EP from earlier this year perfectly exemplified their sensuous and erotic style and now the three tracks get reworked by a set of top contemporary talents. The original artwork and photography for the release is by Daniel Rajcsanyi, with additional typography and reframing by Studio Mizuiro.
Greek-born and Freeride Millenium regular NIKKNAME is first. From deepest house to melancholic ambient via moody disco, he has explored a wide array of styles. He flips ‘Hot’ into a sizzling electro-disco pumper lit up by rugged synth arps and libidinous vocal sounds, finishing it with a passionate edge.
Delicate Features is the moniker of composer Pavel Diakov and vocalist Radmila Nikogosian, a duo who make immersive soundscapes and have released on Freeride Millenium as well as Cellar Tapes and Not Not Fun Records. Their remix of 'Garden Of Lust' is replete with soft and silky chords adding a diffuse glow to the 80s disco beats while whispered vocals make things intimate.
Last of all, comes Irish-born artist, Permanent Vacation associate, and audio engineer Sara Miller. She is a regular at
Berlin’s most cult clubs and runs her own well-regarded Naive Melodies events in the city. Her Glitter Mix of ‘Animal’ is a full-throttle house track with warm kick drums and glistening, pixelated melodies, adding sugary disco stylings up top.

J.Wiltshire returns to MUSAR with 'Sunflower At Day' EP — a deep, atmospheric excursion across four tightly woven dance-floor tracks.

Marking MUSAR’s 20th release, this EP showcases some of Wiltshire’s most club-ready work yet, blending outsider house, ambient trance, and Cornish electronic influences.  

The title track ‘Sunflower At Day’ is a shoegaze-infused chugger that nods to the ethereal haze of My Bloody Valentine and has a rave energy reminiscent of Future Sound of London. Track two, ‘Cosmic Slap’, takes over with its deep, dub-heavy sounds and off-kilter rhythms, playing to Wiltshire's more experimental side under a techno beat.  

On the B side, we dive deeper into Wiltshire's intricate melodic world. 
‘Traversing’ unfolds with enveloping, pastoral harmonic patterns, balancing surging intensity with an organic flow. 
Finally, the EP closes with the cinematic ‘Rush Point 9’, a late-night noir groove that offers a perfect, reflective finale to this sonic journey.

Premiere | Melchior Sultana - Nothing Like It Seems (DISRWAX009)

For REC008, we have the honour of showcasing an exciting artist from Switzerland: Manuel Moreno. Manuel has been active in the scene for many years, with releases on labels such as Ritter Butzke, Amaeo, Hive Audio and Kamai Music. In addition to being an active resident at Hive for over ten years, he is well-known for creating iconic brands such as his event series 'Au Revoir' and co-owning the agency 'Send Return'.

His two-track EP 'Elysian' highlights his diverse range of sounds. The title track impresses with a steady groove, captivating chord stabs, and layered synths that demand attention — the perfect closing track for any set. 'Swedenborg', on the other hand, reveals his darker side. A hypnotic, rumbling foundation is elevated by the magnificent voice of Natasha Waters, resulting in a track that will shake dance floors.

To round out the release, two exciting producers join the Reconsider roster. For the main track, Predex, a promising producer from Istanbul, gives 'Elysian' a melodic yet groovy touch. 'Swedenborg' is reinterpreted by none other than James Harcourt, who transforms it into a dark, tribal dancefloor belter with his signature progressive sound.

For its newest record, Public Release soars over the Atlantic and glides into Greece to convene with two brothers from Thessaloniki, Christos and Fotis Papadakis, for Cosmic Swimmer, a gentle, lilting sunbleached house escapade.

The 12-inch opens with their soft and cushy original mix of “Cosmic Swimmer”, a charmed layer cake of round, full-bodied hand drums, airy pads, and washed-out vocal harmonies. A breezy, wide-open endless groove that ambles along at a not-too-slow, not-too-fast Goldilocks pace that will easily keep you undulating on the floor or in your head. Another pair of brothers, the Soulwax boys, making a very rare, celebrated appearance here, take the reigns and fill out the arrangement by wrapping it all up in some stone-cathedral euphoric resonance and injecting it with their trademark finger-plucked bass struts. One of their top remixes ever? Perhaps.

The hot potato is then passed to New York City’s Kim Ann Foxman for her take, a more urgent and pressed affair that swaps the organic elements for jittery programmed percussion, strobed effects, and brittle synth licks, all the while somehow keeping the dusting of Balearic feel-good presence intact. Finally, Eric “Dr. Dunks” Duncan jumps into the frame with a tough love acid- flecked interpretation that thrusts the record into peak-hour rave territories.

For the digital edition, a bonus is offered, a peppy, saucy Hi-NRG piano number that has echoes of late-80s New Order. A carefree, cheeky encore that caps off the party with a bolt of electricity.

The Amsterdam-based Filament crew have been contributing to the city's left-of-center electronic scene for quite some time now, enriching nights with regular soirées – where guests range from Maurice Fulton to Paramida –, hosting livestream events or playing one of their multi-flavoured DJ sets across town. Distributed by Bordello A Parigi, their newly-founded record label sets out to tell the sonic story through every stage of an event; a tune for every chapter from the lingering suspense and early haze of doors-open to the wind-up power-hour grand hoorah.

Next to the Filament trio making their production debut, the EP features tracks by Monty, Møzaika and Hysteric - who delivers a heavy-hitting Italo cut, with big stabs, drawn-out chords and a relentless arpeggio.

Swiss dj and producer Plastique De Rêve hails from Geneva and has just returned home after 20 years living in Berlin.

Born in Australia, raised to 70s electronic disco and his parents’ Kraftwerk records in the outskirts of Nairobi, then to DAF, new wave and EBM back in Europes' 1980s, Plastique has been fascinated by electronic sound since childhood and dabbling into electronic music since 1984 !!

After several live EBM and experimental performance groups, then acid, techno and early rave projects, contemporary art installations and KLF-inspired performances across the 90s, Plastique released two 12” electro bombs on International Deejay Gigolo Records at the beginning of this century, which helped him to become one of the pioneering names of the Swiss electro scene.

After the highlight of the Gigolo era, Plastique moved on with releases on other top international labels such as Turbo, Mental Groove, Kitty Yo, or DFA. His electro, disco, breakdance and acid house influenced productions have been played and playlisted by many top djs across the world.

Today Plastique De Rêve lives and works between Berlin and Geneva, as ever into futuristic electro, techno, acid house and cosmic disco, but also weird ambient soundtracks for film, installations and performances.

Plastique is also one half of cosmic disco duo NOO signed to Optimo Music Disco Plate, and has just released the first album of an ambient side-project called Ange Du Bizarre.

Since 2019 he is also co-host and producer of the Sound Of The System radio shows on Berlin's independent station reboot.fm, together with Andrew Claristidge (Acid Washed).
