FM036: Ben Sims presents Dub Revolution

For the FM regulars you'll know that Ben Sims' Saturday morning excursions into reggae, dub and lovers rock are a Field Maneuvers staple; a way to blow off the cobwebs from the night before for hungover steppas. For the uninitiated, and those who're maybe wanting to extend Notting Hill Carnival for another week, you're in for a real treat. 

Sims' love of downtempo Jamaican rhythms and music to groove to show us a different side to Ben, who is usually found making club foundations shake with 130BPM kick drums and high intensity techno. His record bag of rare reggae is deeper than a 5am smoking exit chat with a stranger, and we can't wait to bring it back to the field in just a few days time.

FM036: Ben Sims presents Dub Revolution

Drone

In the last couple of years, London's SHERELLE (@iamsherelle)has torn through the dance music world like a tornado. Everything she does is high speed and high impact, from what she mixes to the way she mixes it. Her dizzying mix of footwork, jungle and drum & bass has breathed new life into the 160bpm scene and got people all over Europe in a spin. As well as solo work, she plays as part of the 6 Figure Gang and runs the Hooversound Recordings label with Naina while also championing all things leftfield on her BBC Radio 1 residency. 

Of course, her 80 minute mix for us is pure fire, a bumping ride through thrilling kick patterns, shimmering toms and drilling bass. It's underpinned with a constant sense of tension that keeps you utterly on the edge of your seat and variously explodes into life, or pulls back to a moment of unsettling calm. It tells the story of a rich history of UK music, but with a fresh perspective that makes it all the more vital.

Introducing Liam Dutton aka 'duts', a Frodsham based DJ and resident of Future Sounds. Having lifelong aspirations of getting into DJing, it was a trip to Berlin in 2017 (a very sleepless one at that) that ultimately excited him to get behind the decks, and see what all the fuss was about!

Over the past three years his style has progressively got harder and faster, however, with the occasional nod to his earlier influences found amongst the frenzy of his sets. Taking inspiration from the likes of Dax J, Slam, Vril & Manni Dee, expect the next hour to be rich in a plethora of dark, rave inducing bangers.
