Two weeks may seem like a long time, but each participant says that the Academy experience is over in a flash. It was the same for Canadian juke/footwork producer HomeSick, whose “2weeks” perfectly encapsulates the frenetic pace of RBMA. After a short intro that includes a bit of Rhodes recorded in the lecture hall on one of his last days in Paris, the track quickly heads to the stratosphere. 

“I usually catch myself defaulting to some gloomy soundscapes in my productions, but it seems the exciting mood of the RBMA Paris environment shined through on this one,” he says. While this is a solo joint, HomeSick met a number of musicians at the Academy that he’s keen to collaborate with in the future. As we prepared this track for its premiere, he told us that he’s working with the UK’s Corey K. on some material that should hopefully see the light of day soon.

FaltyDL's trusty Blueberry label sets sail with catalogue no. BBR008 under his new Tenant moniker, Not for Press. The opening track sets the tone for the entire six-tracker – a dizzying tyranny of factory-line sounds to elevate listeners to a state of raised heart rates and higher consciousness. It's hard to believe that Falty/Tenant is also a part-time librarian... or maybe it actually makes perfect sense. "Remote Lover" remains incredibly melodious, despite its almost entirely percussive texture (until that unannounced synth euphoria at the 3-minute mark). For that reason, its title couldn't be more accurate.

One that must be handled with care, Not for Press drops on 8th April. Approach with caution.

In a sea of thousands of dance music labels, Gottwood Festival have proven their worth with their Gottwax imprint. Their compilations EP1 and EP2 have boasted seminal summertime numbers from Ruf Dug, Cottam, Rob Amboule and more. Now, Gottwax's forthcoming EP3 consists of four new tracks cut on bright orange acetate by Ponty Mython, Krywald & Farrer and Bonar Bradberry – and a welcome return for Appleblim. Relishing in our fortune to have a first listen, it is the four-four iridescence of Appleblim's "Phosphene" that stands out most. An epic homecoming for the Bristolian producer who has otherwise kept relatively quiet as of late, setting sail suitably on the third Gottwax ship.

EP3 drops via Gottwax on 16th April.
