Deeply loveable Parisian label Antinote has been blurring music's lines since their 2012 conception, with the diverse releases that have prospered from their base within the city's 11ème arrondissement walls. Not one given selection from Antinote's vaults has made for dull listening – from Iueke's cassette-only techno and Geena's explosive house, to Syracusee's soda pop and the frank exploration of human fragility in Nico Motte's Life Goes On If You Are Lucky.

Antinote now welcomes back the versatile DJ, producer and experimentalist, D.K. (Dang Khoa Chau), for his second release with the imprint, Island of Dreams. D.K.'s self-ascribed aesthetic influences come from 1980s and 1990s digital culture – Super Nintendo, American teen movies on VHS, Daryl Hall and John Oates on MTV – these of which he transposes into a musical idiom of dated synth melodies, power keyboard chords, tropical drum machine rhythms and raw bass lines. These are exhibited comprehensively on today's Debut, and the only house-y tip of the record, "Raindrops". A feel-good track totally retrospective in nature, "Raindrops" tails off the synthetic, virtu-real world of D.K.'s Island of Dreams with the utmost satisfaction.

For the past seven years Kornél Kovács has been busy rocking dancefloors and boomboxes worldwide as one third of Stockholm’s Studio Barnhus alongside Axel Boman and Petter Nordkvist. The label and DJ trio is spearheading a new era of fearless Swedish off-centre dance music, straddling the line between the cute and the menacing.

Anticipation for Kovács' debut album has been rocketing following stand out releases like 2014's wistful Szikra, last year’s mad party anthem Pantalón on Glasgow's Numbers imprint and the late night groove of Space Jam on Smallville Records.

On The Bells, Kovács pops open his trunk full of sounds nicked from the lost and found bins of nightclubs all over the world. From the distorted organ chords of BB to the stripped down trancehall beats of Josey’s Tune and Szív Utca and the title track's cinematic romanticism, it's all of the bells and all of the whistles - further positioning Kovács as one of the most characteristic producers of modern house music.

The record was completed in an intense two-week session with Kovács' great friend and studio engineer Matt Karmil in the winter of 2016. Another close friend, artist Malin Gabriella Nordin, has created the album artwork together with her brother Jonas.

Prompted directly by Kovács to give his report on the record, Studio Barnhus label boss Axel Boman had the following to say:

Kornél's bells will echo far beyond the nervous and trend sensitive ”dance" genre that our label sometimes is associated with, and into pop history. It’s one of our best, most innovative and creative releases to date, and the fact that one of my best friends has managed to do this on the label we share together makes me so proud that I want to cry. ”The Bells” is the reason I dreamed of starting a label in the first place.

Rumour had it that he was invincible. At least that was what he would like people to believe as he looked out from the Ivory Tower. When he had been appointed as the new leader people had thought him to have super powers, that was how the story was told throughout the land. Little did they know that he was as washed up and tired as they come. A weakened man battered by the elements of the day and a political dart board for all around. This was no noble position, it was simply an elevated chair. The story would gone on, but whether he would remain was another question entirely.

If you have been a following the underground disco scene the past few years, there is a good chance you have heard of Harry Wolfman before. Since 2011, the funk producer from London has managed to release tracks on prominent labels such as Dirt Crew Recordings, Razor-N-Tape, The House of Disco, Under The Shade, MTA Records, and Lost My Dog. Building a reputation as quite the prolific producer, Harry has decided to add another label to his growing list by coming out with the EP “Nemoto” on Dutch outfit OUTPLAY.

For those that are unfamiliar, the label is run by producers Hans Peeman (Junktion) and Daniël Leseman and recently came out with records by some of our favorites like Loz Goddard and Fouk. Now, with Harry Wolfman under their belt, OUTPLAY is beginning to solidify themselves as one of our most reliable sources of house music in the game.

In their 8th release, OUTPLAY has put out a four-track array of tunes that do well in showcasing Harry Wolfman’s range as a producer. From down-tempo melodies that sound like they have been taken from space to chopped-up basslines that seem hell-bent on making you dance, Mr. Wolfman shows that there isn’t much he can’t handle in the studio.

That being said, our personal favorite from the record has to be its lead track “Nemoto.” Clocking in at almost 10 minutes, this original weaves in elements of filtered house and unadulterated funk that act to lull the listener at points, while energizing them at others. In between these moments, Harry keeps things interesting by incorporating an assortment of modulated synths and memorable quotes like, “It was like disco was the Titanic and we were all on board…”

Although I wouldn't say this EP will make you sink like the Titanic, it will certainly help you get down! To get yourself a copy, simply follow this link right here.
