To celebrate Grid 2nd anniversary, we gathered together thirteen earth-shattering tracks from the bass scene’s most promising creators, all aimed to move you in the most primordial way. Evoking images of vast landscapes and deep underground catacombs.

This compilation takes the listener deep into the earth with twisted percussion workouts from the likes of Jabes, Piezo, Ronan and Sister Zo… and back into the light with serene compositions from E-unity, Tammo Hesselink and A Psychic Yes, whilst Jay Duncan, Basile3 y Clara!, Jonny From Space, Flaty, Seekersinternational, and blu-e join the dots with their genre-defying creations.

As was the case with Grid’s previous compilations 'Improvisations' and 'Da Capo Al Coda', the label once again puts its stamp on a moment in the underground by collecting together productions of the highest quality that push the boundaries but undeniably make you want to move.

It's difficult to describe the feeling that I had when I first saw the Robot and the Heart floating in the desert, peacefully united under the rising red sun. Hopefully my recording captured some magic from the Playa for you, which felt more like Mars than Earth. My set was from 8-10am on Wednesday morning, big thanks to Robot Heart for inviting me to play and much love to the astronauts, gypsies and spirit animals that joined me on the trip ....... it was an amazing and unforgettable experience <3

This summer, Boiler Room & Native Instruments took Kode9 to Tokyo to explore the full spectrum of Japanese bass culture. A central focal point of our trip was an introduction to the ancient discipline of taiko: the enormous tree-hollowed drums used in Japanese culture for thousands of years. Originally used as fearful instruments in the theatre of war, it's only in the last half-century that they've been used for performance. As an academic in sonic warfare and the theoretics of bass, Kode9 was our ideal candidate to tackle their sheer magnitude.

Over the course of a few days, he set out sampling various taiko and took them into the studio with Osaka-based footwork producer DJ Fulltono. The result is "TKO", a heavy-duty 160BPM workout that brings the ancient drums right into the modern context of Tokyo's futurist footwork scene.
