Undeniably one of my biggest inspirations, the ever-talented @kondukukonduku presents a mix in his signature style, a unique soundscape of charming rhythms and melodies.

I've been a big fan of the Konduku ever since his debut album, Kiran, on @nousklaeraudio in 2018. Since then, Ruben has released an impressive and diverse catalogue on labels such as Spazio Disposable, Delsin & Idle Hands, often drawing on his Turkish heritage.

Beyond his incredible productions, Konduku is known for long, mind melting and crafty DJ sets & mixes. His closing set at De School for ADE in 2019 was one of my favourite DJ sets to date!

Animix Sixty Six: Konduku

Southeast Asia is made up of diverse dance music markets that feel strongest when united. A steady stream of cross-border collaborations has come to define the region's underground nightlife, with Bangkok-based Sunju Hargun at the forefront of many of these exchanges. Over the years, he's honed a signature sound of minimal techno, tribal rhythms and deep downtempo while playing in Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam. Inspired by the traditional music of these countries, his DJ sets and productions are lush tonal sound baths, with plenty of nature references. Shimmering ambient evokes misty mountain tops while whiffs of Goa trance nod to beach sunrises.

His current project, Siamese Twins Records, is also rooted in pan-Asian connections. A platform to explore old-world chants and ceremonial percussion, the label hosts much of Hargun's own work, including Bollywood-inspired acid made as Mogambo, a production outfit he runs with Jerom Doudet. All these myriad styles are present on Hargun's RA Podcast, an hour-long trip where flickering synths reverberate like gongs before morphing into an amorphous mass of dub techno, jungle noises and meandering modular sequences.

Konduku at Paral·lel Festival 2022

Clear as spring water, the memory of Shoal's beautiful live set echoing through the Norwegian mountains, finally sharing the stage together at Monument (@monument-podcast) after meeting in Amsterdam several years ago. Those familiar with our dear friends at Harmony Rec (@harmony-rec) will be undoubtedly familiar with Kenny's impeccable body of work, and for the rest an eye-opening treat awaits. Here, Kenny gathers highlights from his recent live sets and newly recorded material, arranged and refined into a perfect contemplation of the crisp arboreal air, a vivid composition of body and sound entwined tightly beneath the earth. For this month's podcast, we welcome Tangerine, producer, live act and DJ based in Naarm (Melbourne, Australia). She released her debut EP First Breath late last year, a contemporary variation on her love for trance, IDM, deep techno and ambient. This mix similarly features the broad range of genres and emotions that she takes inspiration from; combining the soft with the gritty, the harmonious with the distorted, and embracing the beauty of contradiction! “Vivid” and “otherworldly” are words sometimes used to try and describe @erikadotnet’s singular sound. Combining a fresh, forward-thinking approach with a strong connection to her roots and the wider scene, Erika has become an influential presence in the years since she was first gifted a TR-606 by BMG and invited to join Ectomorph. 

As a producer, her work is grounded in techno and electro, but often goes much further afield, incorporating rough textures and abstract kaleidoscopic experimentation to great effect.
Alongside long-time collaborators BMG and Amber, she runs the highly-regarded label Interdimensional Transmissions (@ithqdetroit). This platform has allowed her to delve deep on a sonic level through a string of impactful solo and collaborative releases, while also overseeing and contributing to legendary Detroit events Samhain, No Way Back and Return to the Source.

The majesty in Erika’s Patterns of Perception 111 comes as much from its restraint as it does from its vibrancy. Layers of rhythm and percussion swirl and elevate, revealing intricate new patterns at every juncture. And while Erika’s expert pacing and evocative atmospheres offer a sense of low-slung sophistication, a subtle, raw energy builds, bristling just under the surface.
