John Talabot is the acclaimed Spanish DJ and producer who has brought a real sense of melody and occasion to house and techno. The Hivern Discs boss, as well as releasing a standout album in ƒIN, and fine collaborations with Axel Boman and Pional, is also an in-demand remixer celebrated for being able to create majestical grooves from originals by people like The xx and Shit Robot. He has also put together a stunning DJ Kicks mix and now he has been in the booth again, putting together a typically epic podcast for our on going series. 

Across the course of one and a half hours, the Barcelona based Talabot lays out his musical modus operandi in all its glory: serene house riddled with melody, dreamy pads and wavy tones that speak to the soul. With a rather blissed out and dreamy undercurrent, he slowly works through house old and new and keeps a strong, compelling groove present and correct at all times. Officially entitled "Post Summer Melodies" by Talabot, this mix is full of just that, and is sure to keep you warm long after the sun has gone.

Headman/Robi Insinna introduces Relish Industria, a new series from the ever evolving label head which will showcase a wealth of the electronic's rising stars. Each release will be A compilation EP, featuring various artists with Vol I setting the standard with Mondowski, Maya Danon and a rework from Headman's own '6 Album' feat Red Axes.

The first track comes from Bordeaux based Mondowski, known well for his residency at his very own 'Shadowplay' at the iBoat.  He draws inspirations from techno to new-wave and electro to rock and acid house. "Cry wolf“ is a dark, slow repetitive atmospheric film Noir-esque affair with cold synths.  He is currently working on his third EP as well as various other projects.

"So you say“ is the second release of Maya Danon, a Tel Aviv based musician, sound artist and producer, who has featured previously on Relish.  Her first track 'Dazed' was featured on REPVI and received strong support from the likes of Shit Robot. Again she delivers an organic techno track with a twist, that shows her feel for sounds and groove.

The final track on Relish Industria I, is Headman's rework of 'Barbarism'. It features I’m a cliché’s Red Axes.The original version was released on last years '6' album with huge support across the board including Ivan Smagghe and Mexico's Rebolledo. The rework has taken on an Italo disco vibe, yet keeps the dark and driving elements and uses new exclusive parts.

Maya Danon - So You Say

In collaboration with Four Tet and Floating Points, Katy B reveals Calm Down, the first piece of music taken from her new project entitled ‘Honey’ that will see Katy teaming up with a number of producers and artists, further exemplifying Katy’s ability to push boundaries and create exciting new music. Expect more details of Honey to follow in the new year.

Next up on Hivern Disc's edit series comes a very special vinyl-only release by collaborative project Lost Scripts – a match made in heaven between label head John Talabot and Pional.

"A.F.K." is our highlight, found on the flip and providing an uplifting Afro-inspired house track. The track balances its influences evenly, with percussive saturation and ritualistic vocal chants entwining with curly synth patterns, creating a journey that starts – as the Hivern family put it rightly themselves – 'in the savannah and ends in outer space'.

HVNED04 drops on July 29th as a limited edition 1o", housed in a silk-screened sleeve.

John Talabot and Axel Boman teamed up in 2017 for their R&S debut ’The Night Land’ where they got to flex their creative muscles over eight tracks of rich synth jams.  

The two electronic artists have been independently successful in their respective careers, but as Pitchfork expressed in their glowing review “Their collective output doesn’t sound much like either’s work; it doesn’t even necessarily reflect the thin, convex sliver where their interests overlap. Instead, they’ve hit upon something new.”

This new sound also proved to be a hit with the likes of Mojo, Phonica, XLR8R, Self Titled and DJ Mag all including it their annual best of lists.

The artists have now handpicked four artists to create their own vision of the Talaboman sound.  
Superpitcher, Samo DJ, Luke Slater under his L.B. Dub Corp alias and Powder have all seriously delivered the goods.

Dominik Marz is back at it again with another Fiction Lab entry. The Augsburg natives’ last release, a collaboration with David Kochs made our December short list of favorites and has received support from Fiction Lab elite such as The Drifter, and Aera. For this premiere, we’ve chosen the dub tool of Marz’ You Will Be Free, forth-coming on Best Kept Secrets.

Dubs of tracks are an interesting phenomenon, stripped back, fewer elements, more focused on groove however intangible that may be. They’re created to provide DJ’s and music lovers with alternatives in cases where the original versions more often than not feature strong vocals. Great for setting the tone of a night, or layering and building with due to their simplistic nature. Marz’ dub checks all those boxes and more. From the get go, an infectious loop greets the listener and sets the tone of this song as not necessarily a slow burner but a track that establishes itself early and builds element by element. Snappy kicks, synthy risers, and airy pads all contribute to a surprisingly emotional release at the break with a sprinkling of the original versions’ vocals throw into the mix. If the past is any indicator of the future, then here at Fiction Lab, we’re excited to see where Dominik goes and shall be keeping an ear on him.

PREMIERE: Dominik Marz - You Will Be Free (dub tool) [Best Kept Secrets]

What makes this producer so unique is the deep, deep disco house, kissed by spheric, warm and psychedelic influences which he seems to find much more in 70`s Space Rock than in Chicago House or Detroit Techno like so many others.. And this is what he does on this record in just such a banning way.
John Daly lives in Galway / Ireland and founded his own label “feel music” in 2005.
