MIMS is very excited to have the first drop on Orestes Gomez' remix for fellow Venezuelan Raúl Monsalve y los Forajidos' "Bocón". A lush neo-soul & jazz heavy bed for Luzmira Zerpa's poignant verbal attack on lying politicians. Taken from a forthcoming remixes 45 on London-based Olindo Records.

Orestes' remix made a BIG impression on Raúl Monsalve: "I was so impressed by what Orestes did, taking the original track to another realm... and groovy as a motherfucker". Orestes is joined on the track by some impressive sidemen, including bassist Daniel Briceño (La Vida Boheme) and flautist Eric Chacón (Tony Succar / Miguel Siso).

Orestes Gomez is one of the most recognized drummers in Latin America. His work fusing musical genres including: Afro, Latin, Hip Hop, and Jazz has earned him international recognition. He has travelled the world playing and collaborating with some of the most respected bands of Latin America including; Los Amigos Invisibles, Gustavo Dudamel, Caloncho, Mcklopedia, Apache, and Akapellah. On the remix he is joined by some exciting musicians, including bassist Daniel Briceño (La Vida Boheme) and flautist Eric Chacón (Tony Succar / Miguel Siso).

Last year Orestes produced the entirety of 'Dealers in Caracas', a hip hop album in partnership with Venezuelan MC Mcklopedia, and earlier this year he released a series of contemporary jazz pieces in a trio with Latin Grammy nominated pianist Gabriel Chakarji and bassist Freddy Adrian.

Raúl Monsalve and his all-star family of musicians received praise and support for their exciting fusion of Afro Venezuelan rhythms with Latin jazz, psych, funk and Afrobeat, from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Gideon Coe, Huey Morgan, Stuart Maconie (BBC Radio 6 Music), Jazz FM, NTS, Songlines, Bandcamp, Radio Nova, Le Grigri, FIP, and of course, Music Is My Sanctuary.

Raúl Monsalve y los Forajidos are currently on a European tour with dates across France, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland and the Supersonic Jazz Festival in Amsterdam.

The Orestes Gomez remix of "Bocón" is streaming from this week across all the usual platforms and is available to pre-order on vinyl and download from the Olindo Records Bandcamp. The full 45 with a remix of another 'Bichos' cut, by fellow Venezuelan Venezonix, is due for release on September 4, 2021.

Gianni Brezzo - the Cologne-based jazz affiliated project led by producer, multi-instrumentalist and musical maestro Marvin Horsch - inaugurates his 2022 with the stunning single "Il Sole". The track is a perfect sonic voyage that encapsulates the growth of Gianni's sound. Subtle, yet lush layers of synths, horns, strings, keys and a strong, beat-driven percussion all ebb and flow together, bringing to mind the finest Library Themes of Piero Umiliani, Sven Wunder, Janko Nilovic and others.

Accompanying the track is a gorgeous video put together by Jakarta label mainstay Robert Winter and the DIE OTTOS crew which rides a visual wave around Marvin's relationship to Italian culture. Footage is derived from Marvin's now-annual visit to see his grandmother.

Myron & E with the Soul Investigators.

The road to soul by Northern Cali's Myron & E (Myron Glasper and Eric "E da Boss" Cooke) ran through hip-hop first.  They met while on tour with Oakland's Blackalicious - Cooke was teh tour DJ and Glasper sang backup - and bonded over a love of classic soul music.

While on a separate tour through Finland, a chance encounter led Cooke to an impromptu jam session with members of The Soul INvestiagors, whose work with singer Nicole Willis helped define them as one of Europe's foremost retro-soul bands.  Producer Didler Selin was impressed enough to leave Cooke with several Soul INvestigator tracks.  Back in the Bay Area, he recruited Glasper as a songwriting/vocal team and the collaboration had begun.

Myron & E with the Soul investigators released a string of limited edition 45s which radiated such an authentic soul vibe that they were embraced through Europe and America, and caught on with the low-rider scene in California.

In the past year, the team focused on building its live show and perfecting its debut album, Broadway, now being released on Stones Throw Records.

Gilles Peterson presents a very special 3-hour mix dedicated to the recently departed trumpeter Roy Hargrove.

A prodigious talent whose star rose in the early 1990s, Roy Hargrove recorded and performed with a whole host of artists including Erykah Badu, Common, D’Angelo, Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock, Jackie McLean and Oscar Peterson.

Roy Hargrove’s life mission was the to spread the jazz message and succeeded. He departed on 2nd November 2018 at the age of 49, and Gilles Peterson pays a special tribute to the talents of the man with a 3-hour mix exploring the sounds that he brought to the world.
