Marcel Dettmann is a rarity in electronic music. His precocious disdain for rules has been one of the key ingredients for a decades-spanning arc that started sometime around the fall of the Berlin Wall (with early exposure to post-punk, industrial and synth pop) and continues to this day. His leitmotif is instantly recognisable, expertly layered, playfully syncopated, and though his influence is everywhere, no one quite manages to copy his pioneering sound. His formative influences surface frequently, serious atonal arrangements that follow the logic of EBM descending into a flurry of protean melodies; maybe this versatility is why, for a long time now, Dettmann’s sound has been so synonymous with a city in flux. Marcel Dettmann: My Own Shadow

Ron Albrecht stands behind the decks of the most iconic clubs on the planet. His sets are deep, uncompromising, and emotionally charged – a captivating fusion of contemporary techno structures and the raw, honest roots of electronic music. With an exceptional sense for dramaturgy, he reads the energy of the dancefloor and guides his audience on an intense, almost meditative journey.

But his story goes much further back – deep into the early days of German techno culture. In the 1990s, Albrecht was more than just a DJ; he was a cultural pioneer. In 1994, he founded Gerberei in Schwerin, a club that quickly became one of the most important venues for electronic music in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. For nearly two decades, he shaped the club as co-founder, organizer, and resident DJ – providing a stage for both national and international artists, far from the major cities. At the same time, from 1995 to 2006, he ran the legendary record store Easy Traxx, which became a hub and source of inspiration for many DJs and music lovers. It wasn’t just a place to buy records – it was a space where attitude and taste were curated, rooted in a deep understanding of vinyl culture and sonic aesthetics.

In a personal interview with Andre Kronert, Ron Albrecht talks about his first encounters with electronic music, the magnetic pull of Berlin’s early club scene, and the pivotal moments that shaped his path. His stories offer insight into a constantly evolving scene – and into the mind of an artist who continues to approach it with integrity, depth, and passion.
