Following the more house & techno focused Spring Club Collection, The Visionquest dream team return with the sun-dappled Summer ‘Beach Collection’, starring Maceo Plex, Tale Of Us and Pillow Talk.

Part II of the Spring Summer Collection features a fresh selection of summer jams – a three-tiered melting pot of hot talent, dishing out a warm mix of sun drenched house steeped in soul, both dusky and bright, with an 80’s disco infusion. This next installment is testament to the ever-changing moods and winds across Visionquest sonic footprint. It sounds like the breeze and the heat of a memorable summer romance, soul music for the feet.

House maestro Maceo Plex steps up first with the bittersweet summer anthem ‘Falling’, the dreamy vocal drifts into the uplifting melody, funky guitar licks and subtle undercurrents of softly jackin’ beats build into psychedelic waves of hooky synths. Maceo Plex’s recent superb singles and Life Index album on Crosstown Rebels is a contender for album of the year.

Hot on the heels of the moody, epic ‘Dark Song EP’, Tale Of Us are back representing Visionquest with the deep melancholy of ‘Winds Of Change’. Eerie atmospheres unfold with gently broken beats, minor key bass notes and a mysterious vocal cut that penetrates the soul with its yearning clarity.

Sammy D aka Pillow Talk has been a fixture on the San Francisco house and techno scene for the past 12 years, having released as Justin Martin & Sammy D on luminary labels such as Derrick Carter’s Classic Records, Ben Watt's Buzzin'Fly and Claude Von Stroke's Dirtybird. Sammy's new project Pillow Talk (alongside production partners Michael Tello and Ryan

Williams) is straight up soul dance music. Influenced by the great RnB singers of the 50s and 60s, Sammy’s velvet vocals displayed here in the majestic ‘Love Makes Parks’ wash over the laid-back, swinging groove and the message is clear; It’s the Visionquest summer of Love.

It has been a whirlwind twelve months for David Sidley and Duncan Murray aka WHYT NOYZ. Since their SCI+TEC debut last February the UK based producers have enjoyed successful releases and remixes with Terminal M, Alleanza, KD Music and Form, and closed 2013 with a first full release on Richie Hawtin's Minus.

Formed in 2010 the duo quickly impressed with their driving techno productions that were matched with live drums and innovative vocal samples. Having initially caught the ear of Hawtin with their early demos, WHYT NOYZ were soon featuring on his Minus12 sub-label and their track 'Volcano' was included on his 'New Horizons' compilation. 

Dubfire was also a fan and invited the duo to produce an EP for SCI+TEC. They announced their arrival to the family with the rampant 'Homewurk' EP. Throughly tried and tested by the label boss, both tracks are now certified SCI+TEC hits and ready for release. 

Today WHYT NOYZ return with the 'They' EP, a four track selection that rolls out of the blocks with the mean stomping sound of the title track. The tempo is pushed on Tribe with its pulsing bassline, fluid FX and bell chimes before the boys match hip-hop vocal spikes, a fat, groovy bottom end and tense breaks on In 95'. WHYT NOYZ drop more urban funk on the final cut as their cascading keys and throbbing bass work to perfection to close the ep in true party style.

Q:
You must at one time have had a vision about how Affin should be, tell us about it 

A:
The idea for an own label was present long time before Affin started. The main reason was just to release whatever i wanted. Moreover i like the idea of being independent from others opinions and after some years of releasing and working on several labels i felt fine to go for it.  

Q:
Are you getting closer to your vision? 

A:
Yes, for sure. The Affin 100 compilation was a turning point for the label. In the last 2 years the the label focussed on releasing techno. 

Q:
What are your thoughts on the techno scene today? 

A:
Compared to the time when i started releasing music (1999) a lot of things changed (otherwise it would be sad, ha ha). With developments of software and DAWs it’s easier/cheaper to start producing music. This caused a crowded market and especially on download shops you can see a lot of crap is being sold.  

Q:
How do you spend your time when you are not producing, managing or djing?  

A:
I don't have much time besides from it. I try to relax and easy my mind. :­)  

Q:
Finally, if music was not your carrier what could have been your alternative career? 

A:
I’m not sure.

This native Italian & Berlin based duo needs no introduction. Mind Against started in 2011 and barely 3 years later they are on the crown jewels of the Life and Death label after showing their incredible studio skill. In 2012 and 2013 they also composed several remixes for, amongst others, WhoMadeWho, Art Department, Róisín Murphy, Green Velvet on labels such as Kompakt, Cocoon Recordings, and Vakant.

Mind Against’ sound is very difficult to describe, but we dare to say that the mixture between house and techno appears to sound very deep, trippy and provocative. When they play it’s a sure thing that one can lose themselves in the music and travel to distant universes while dancing.

Othercide Podcast 003 - Homeboy

As residents of the Cityfox New York events, it was high time @adriatique had the chance to flex their repertoire and range beyond a 2hr peaktime slot. On April 11, did they ever. After superb sets by Mark Slee (@mcslee), Atish (@atish) and then Martin Buttrich live (@martin-buttrich), Adrian & Adrian took the decks before a packed and very ready house, playing on a super tight KV2 Audio system. Very simply, the greatest testament to this set is that they started at 4am and when they finished at about 9, most on the dance floor remained to hear them through the end. We've never seen so many people stay out so late in NYC, which says it all.

The biggest cliché of a “sound that’s hard to pin down”, is realer than gravity when it comes to Mind Against. They coax on psychedelic hooks of the 1980s and dance floor anthems bound traditionally to european soil. This backdrop makes for releases and performances that do well against any canvas.
