Their strike rate never dips. Like we need to tell you: O B and Omar are pros. They can play trackiness off against sultry vocals with ease, tossing rave stabs out without it coming across as cute. Our unsigned series looks to build a bridge between some under the radar talent and the various industry influencers that keep up with our content. Our goal is to help budding producers, who we handpick, to be able to find exposure and possibly a home for their yet unreleased productions. I’m Johan!
23 years old and just moved to Copenhagen, Denmark. I have been making music since i was around 12, I started out doing Hip-Hop beats and then later came into the electronic stuff. My musically influences is mostly from non-electronic music, I listen to a combination of jazz, funk, disco and rap. This tune feature a bass sample i found on a fusion record, then i started to fool around with a random chord progression and simple laid the drums unquantized down. Lately i have been really into fusion jazz, the more funky side of it and this was my attempt to combine it with house music.

We welcome Fife born, Bristol/Berlin based Geoff Wright aka Kemback (Omena/Futureboogie) to Needwant. 

By day, Kemback teaches music production classes to students in Berlin, with such a musical back-ground behind him, his latest EP Moving Through Clouds is every bit exquisite as you'd think. Open-ing with the luscious 'I Need You', hi-hat, bongos and sumptuous strings are just some of the ele-ments that blend together seamlessly, a touch of modern jazz-house. The experimental combinations continue on 'Stepping Back', a heavy breaks track coupled with arps and saxophones. Whilst the hazy pads of 'Moving Through Clouds' goes down a more atmospheric route. The EP includes remixes from Soulpiction and Kim Brown (Needwant). 

Over the past ten years the Needwant mantra has been to push the very best in new talent, having provided the platform for the likes of Kiwi, The Mekanism, Maxxi Soundsystem, The Revenge and many more.

We are super pleased to welcome back Dan Only with a brand new EP on Dirt Crew. Since last year’s debut record “The Wurly Chronicles” Dan has been super busy in the studio working on his sound, experimenting with many genres outside of House. This EP is the product of many late hours in the studio that translate into his unique touch on a wider spectrum of electronic music.

On The A-side you will find that deep and warm House sound we got to know Dan for when we first crossed paths. “Someday” is an exploration into the feeling of hopefulness and uncertainty that comes with looking towards a future state that is unknown. It’s steered by AHKI's bouncing bassline and the chord progression that it inspired. “All That’s Left (Piano Dub Mix)” has a driving groove with a slow reveal. This one carefully unmasks itself and shows its true colors towards the tail-end, leaving you with “All That’s Left”.

The B-side of this 12” is all about breaks, electro, and jungle inspired tunes. The opener “Emulsion” is a balance between light and dark, soft and hard, speeding up and slowing down. The rhythm section drives this one forward, but the melodic elements are slowly pulling back at it, leaving you somewhere in the middle. It's a musical attempt of trying to mix oil into water and having one float on top of the other. "An emulsion is a mixture of two or more liquids that are normally immiscible."

“What I Want” comes armed with an S950 and an MS20 – this one is a deep dive into the methods of making break- tinged music of the 90s. Brooding bass-lines and atmospheric melodies take you through the dark Canadian winter months when this was created. Closing with “Breathe”, expect waves of euphoria and gated mantras that'll pull you in and out until a state of bliss washes over you. Let the 909 and bubbling 101 carry you to shore. This one pairs well with deep breathing.

Enjoy this new excursion into the sonic worlds of Dan Only.

After All is a track of Felipe aka Nørus.

Nørus, moniker from the producer and audio engineer Felipe Bortoloti, an upcoming name from Brazil's dusty-introspective house and techno scene, can be seen as a highlight on the main exquisite lo-fi music channels and labels around the globe this days.

Collecting references from his transitory living on different cities of Brazil, his music travels from the boundaries of 4x4 music to stoned ethereal landscapes, with a prolific dance floor inclination and outsider feel. Back in São Paulo, his childhood home base, Nørus is moving forward in the search of his music inner self, dropping timeless gems ahead of owned-label Yellow Island Records and the music collective and radio station Metanol FM.

Germany’s Peter Grummich has been releasing his twist on House and Techno over the past two decades via the likes of Shitkatapult, Kompakt, Spectral Sound, Mule Musiq and of course his very own Innerbird.
