If you hadn’t guessed by now, we’re big fans of the Swing Ting crew here at Truants. Samrai & Platt have already provided us with a Truancy Volume and a premiere of their track “Bad Riddim“, and Florentino served us up his edit of “Get You Alone” last year. In 2015, Swing Ting fully established their label arm to run alongside their monthly clubnight in Manchester, putting out five releases including their first LP – Madd Again!’s MaddTing Vol. 1. Their first delivery of 2016 comes in the form of “Tease Me”, where they link up with Kingston’s Equiknoxx crew: vocals provided by Kemikal, with Puppy Disco remixing the single. You might remember the original as the closer to Truancy Volume 127.

We’re very lucky to have both tracks for you to listen to here first. “Tease Me” is a kicked-back groove with a gorgeous garage-y bassline and airy keys, which spins back and pops off enough to make anyone wish for the long summer evenings to roll round again. It’s the perfect accompaniment for Kemikal, whose rhymes hype it up just enough to make it perfect for the dancefloor. On the flip, Puppy Disco deftly crafts a carefree vibe, repitching Kemikal’s vocals alongside vocoders and organs to wash away any February blues you might have.

UK music of the early 2010s was heavily dominated by a select modicum of names – of which Wayne Goodlitt (also known as Roska) was intrinsically one. Collaborating with the likes of Swindle and Funtcase, a long-running residency with and releases on Rinse, as well as Hotflush (whose 2011 label showcase for BR incidentally featured Roska on the bill), Numbers and Tectonic all staked Roska's claim in the rapidly shifting food chain of British dance and bass music.

Since 2009, Roska's own Kicks & Snares imprint has been housing his prolific discography as well as various other trustee, paving the way in both old and new UK Funky-based music, as well as beyond. Though, much like his own music, genres are becoming less of a thing in dance music. If anything, variety of output is equally as authentic as orthodoxy to one given genre. Man like Roska is a true testament to the former. RKS now reopens shop with Roska's new Askin 4 It EP. All six cuts pay homage to the dance music sound that is quintessentially British. Our highlight "Make Way" whirs underneath with sub-levels bass, permeated by a heavily percussive rhythm throughout that demands to be danced to. All with that unmistakeable "Roska" vocal ident taking us way back. A welcome return to a seasoned pro of UK dance music.

Distal has a nice bit of history already carved out for himself over the past 8 years. After his first release on Soul Jazz he followed things up by releasing on such known labels as Tectonic, Fabric, Om, and most recently Brodinski's Bromance imprint. Distal's collaborated with such greats as Chicago legend Dj Rashad (RIP!), Pinch and one of the godfathers of the dubstep movement 'Silkie'. Distal has successfully completed a couple tours throughout the globe including South America, Europe, Japan and Mexico. The thing about Distal releases is that you never really know what kind of styles you're gonna get, but it's alway's curated to perfection. Distal makes sure every track fits together perfectly regardless of style or emotive qualities. Each release is fine tuned like a neurotic painter and because of this is always very "colorful".

For the fourth release on Anarchostar Distal brings it with 'Psychomagic' a metaphysical cocktail of sub heavy and often emotive club tracks. Psychomagic shines a light on the strengths of every genre it delves into. Psychomagic includes everything from funky 2step, techno, Chicago Hard House, and even Juke. Played on RinseFM, SubFM, NTS & Radar. Dj Support and airplay from Machinedrum, Cooly G, Etch and DMC world champion Dj Shiftee.
