A curated series where we commission artists to make an hour long mix of whatever inspires them to experiment, produce, and what they listen to.

The mix extracts highlights from Kinn's debut album, Anamnesis Landscape, and expands on his favoured themes and aesthetics of the macabre, presented at times with a tongue in cheek “Dread turned up all the way to 11” fashion.

Using extracts of dialogue, these fragmented conversations evoke a subjective narrative, each monologue lingers in the imagination of the listener as they are juxtaposed or mirrored by the brooding drones and fleeting moments of respite. Thanks again to Kinn for contributing to this months series.

"Jack Aldridge (who took the photo) is one of my oldest friends, someone I haven’t seen in person in a very long time due to the pandemic. For this reason I asked him to work with me on “something” around the same time this mix for Mesh came about Whilst I was putting the final touches to the mix I asked him to send over a few photos, without any context, I was just interested to catch up with what he was working on, out of the few dozen photos he sent I became transfixed on this image, the content has no immediate grand concept and yet it’s ambiguity had possessed me. Listening through the finished mix now, the sound and the image have become one, the narrative they evoke together
is expansive and personable, I would hope this is an expectation of listeners of my chin-stroke-type-beat music anyway, to sit and stare into space and let their mind wander, perhaps to places they wouldn’t normally be comfortable to explore" - Kinn

"With this In Session mix, I tried to turn it upside down and showcase the songs in a more dance-related context - it’s quite the journey through all kinds of different BPMs. I was eager to include some of my current favourite artists like Fred again.., Overmono, Weval, and Susso. I smuggled an evergreen in there from my all-time favourite electronic band Mount Kimbie, and it contains an exclusive remix I did for my former guitarist Long Tall Jefferson alongside a lot of tracks from the ‘Stones & Geysers’ album."

Aashish Gupta aka AAGUU, better known for his work as one-half of the duo TechNomads while erstwhile remixing Indian cinema undercuts, curates a love letter to the formative days of house and techno on his Wild City mix. 

Assembling deep cuts and familiar sounds from primarily the early 90s, the Bangalore artist taps into the nostalgia for the joyous glossy strands of the two adjacent genres – hovering closer to their Italo-disco roots. High synthetic string lines, plastic-y melodic percussion, sensual vocal samples and flute sounds created in the early days of MIDI instruments take one on a trip down memory (whether lived or imagined) lane, punctuating it just occasionally with the more sombre acid house cuts. Even while throwing in more modern numbers like Ewan McVicar's 'Amnocairn', the connection to the classic evergreen sounds remains with its snappy house piano.

Istanbul artist Korhan Oraydın known as Non Square delivers a set that guides us across a plain of broken, jarred and rugged percussive elements all the way from 60 to 130bpm. Featuring familiar label faces and new friends, Non Square joins the dots between electronica, techno, IDM and classical electro. This mix displays little restraint, and gets straight down to business.
