Szaio is the anagrammatic alias of Toronto based Polish Canadian production designer turned musician Zosia Mackenzie.

Her debut album, Obraz (Portrait), initially began as a series of GarageBand sketches created over a month in the attic of her grandmother’s home in Warsaw.

Upon returning to Toronto, Mackenzie and her partner John O’Regan went to work in their home studio, swapping sounds and sequences with their Roland TR-909 and Juno 106, Sequential Circuits Prophet 600, and Soviet-era Formanta Polivoks.

Friends, neighbours, and dub techno pioneers Mark and Matt Thibideau provided additional ear candy, layers of vintage rack effects, and full frequency analog mixdowns for each of the album’s six songs at Repair-Lab Studio. Mastering and cutting was provided by Stefan Betke (aka Pole) at Scape Mastering in Berlin.

Pressed on gold 12″ vinyl and available in limited edition via Amsterdam’s Bordello A Parigi (as well as Mackenzie and O’Regan’s own Joint Account imprint in North America) Obraz represents a new and distinctive chapter in both Polish and Canadian electronic music.

Geneva gives ‘’Hypnotic Eyes’’ a synth driven vocal pop rework that will hypnotize you from the start. Fabrizio instead, gives Adrian’s track ‘’Disorder’’ a peak time heavy edged remix, that will not disappoint you.

Breaking The Bubble - Mi Corazon [Earth Sound Recordings]

"Overload, overload" barks the repeated refrain on Yila's Silver Bear Recordings debut. Yeah, it's a phrase that sits nicely within a chorus, but this isn't just some aesthetic gap-filler. Speaking on the affect of social media culture, 'overload' is Yila's way of  commenting on the sense of “detachment and loneliness” that our Facebook feeds and tweets promote.

“There’s a weird sense of us all talking about the same things but really not engaging with important subjects enough", he adds. "It feels like someone else is already doing it so why should we bother standing up and fighting for what we believe in? Just comment on a Facebook post and it rewards the brain.”

That concept gets a new skin under Kasra V's control. Inspired by the italo-disco jams he's been pulling out in his own sets, the NTS regular's take has a strong metropolitan whiff. Like some nocturnal journey through a cityscape, it's reflective and pensive in all the right places.

Spring 2016 saw the release of Stimming’s fourth full length album “Alpe Lusia”, which was named after a remote little alpine hut in northern Italy, in which he had secluded himself to work on his LP for a full month, all by himself. From the title track of his LP emanates his following release on Diynamic, the Alpe Lusia Remixes, and the remixing protagonists are none other than Robag Wruhme, long time collaborateurs Acid Pauli & NU and last but not least Solomun.

First off is Pampa mainstay Robag Wruhme, whose take on Stimming’s “Alpe Lusia” starts off as a dark and brooding tech house gem. Later, when you have made your way through its rough outer shell, peeling off the hard claps, it shows its soft core, with gentle pads caressing the arrangement.

Acid Pauli & NU deliver a deep and driving, almost haunting reinterpretation of “Alpe Lusia", with a thumping bass and ethereal vocals that are hypnotizing.

Finally, Solomun adds a remix that reminds you of the rabbit hole in Alice's Wonderland: the longer you dig, the deeper you get, and the more fantastic is what you experienece.

The original version is the only track on the album without a real groove, which is why Stimming chose precisely this track to be remixed - to see what the others would do about that. Now it is fair to say that all three remixes have succeeded at this task.

The blood pumped rapidly around his aching body. He had never expected to come under attack on the battlefield in such a way, so fierce, so heavy, so caustic. His cardiogram read a series of information which he did not understand or follow. Why would he have ever expected to be the one to end up in a hospital bed? He was the hottest in the ring, the champion of the desert and a perilous fighter. Except, now he felt small, weak and insignificant. What would the others say?

It's A Fine Line is the duo made up of Ivan Smagghe and Tim Paris. Last year they released their album on Kill The DJ, now they are remixed by a series of associated producers on a new EP. "cardiogram" is the track in question and it has been re-imagined by the likes of Dollkraut and Factory Floor.
