OnlyDrums proudly joins forces with New York’s DJ Liondub to create an inspired mix series featuring artists from the Liondub International camp. Volume 12 comes courtesy of Dunk, an established but ever-rising Brazilian Drum & Bass talent well known for his work over the years as ½ of Jam Thieves on Playaz.  Dunk recently released his  “True Funk” EP on Liondub International and has received wide ranging support across the world for his deep, rolling DnB sound. Dunk provides us with a firing mix filled with Dubs and exclusives for volume 12 of the series. Thanks for your continued support over the years. Music has been my way of coping with social anxiety for as long as I can remember. I realized early on that I could drive a conversation by asking what someone listened to. No matter what their answer was, I could find enough common ground to break the ice and fuel a conversation. 

When I started making music, I think it was a continuation of the same thing. In high school, I would spend my weekends alone in a dark room learning what an oscillator is or what compression does - unless I was at my drummer's house writing rock music with my band. 

Music was there for me when I felt most alone, and it's also been there when I've felt most fulfilled. Through the highs and the lows I've felt an ever-present and unbreakable pull to music - something deeper than passion, closer to love... an Eternal Affinity

Following on from strong support of the first sampler, Break teams up with legendary vocalist Singing Fats for this second taste of the Simpler Times album. 
An upbeat summery reggae intro laced with soulful and conscious vocals from Fats leads you into a devastating and heavyweight drop. Jungle inspired drum break switches and massive sub bass tones deliver full impact; as the catchy Fats vocal states “It's the bass that's driving you crazy”. The dub version exclusive to Digital Download extends the moreish reggae intro to a full laid back dub groove.

The flip side is a fresh solo cut from Break. An uplifting synth and piano hook in the intro builds the pressure for a full on gritty and stepping drop. Tough live but studio refined beats lash down congealed with an almost over the top amount of distorted pumping bass. Punchy tom drum fills whip you back in for another time around. This one's a definite club stomper.

 This exclusive B side will not be included on the full album.

One of the few artists on the drum and bass circuit to have really crafted his (yes solo now!) own sound from scratch has to be Jam Thieves and this killer 5 track EP presented by Serial Killaz is certainly testament to the ability to be both instantly recognisable and bloody good at the same time.

The ‘Sativa’ EP kicks your block off straight away with menacing chords and drums typical of this level of production. You will notice little cheeky stabs and effects all over the place which no doubt adds to the tension the title track creates plus that ever so wobbling bassline.

‘Paranoia’.. You what mate? Nah, not us. The ‘Simon Says’ sample is pretty god damn demanding here, just make sure you’re not following an MCs request to “sit down, sit down, sit doooooown’ during the drop. Some grand piano licks run forward into ‘Bizness’, complimented by some more snazzy breakbeats and a grotty old bassline with just a touch of distortion making it that perfect accessory to whatever Jam Thieves gets up to under the cover of darkness. ‘Heavy Duty’ has a kind of Robot Wars vibe going on so if you’re still into that kind of thing, it’s the perfect combination of mental destruction and flaming swords but in a musical form. 

Closing the doors on the EP, Jam Thieves really went to town with ‘Situation’ and if you really want to appreciate the levels to this track, it’s very important to use some good monitors and a whopping great sub. We don’t mean a 10” either, save that for your pop and bass melodies. Check the vocal sample too while you’re at it.
