The Roots of Hip Hop -
I was contacted and asked to put together a hip hop workshop and at first thought, that may not seem like a big deal and a lot of people may view it as nothing special.  But with a culture as large and diverse as Hip Hop, I knew I had to present "Hip Hop" in a manner that is often lost, or forgotten, in today's media. 

I've been a fan of the culture and music of Hip Hop since the mid 80's, when many people wrote it off as just a fad.  I then moved from a fan to a participant in the early 90's, first as a graffiti writer and later as an emcee.  All along the way, always a student and observer of the diverse and ever changing culture.  I saw it grow from something that would take place down my block and into a multi-billion dollar industry.  From Hip Hop's teen years to adult hood and on until today, I have smiled, been a part of and at times been ashamed of Hip Hop.

There were many times when I felt I had to follow up the simple phrase of, "I make Hip Hop music," with some type of rebuttal or defense.  Something like, "But it's not what you think or hear on the radio."  Many times I contemplated using a different name or variation of Hip Hop (Underground Hip Hop, Independent Hip Hop, Conscious Hip Hop, etc.) But why should I have to change, became my response.  I have consistently made it a point to portray and represent the culture properly, as it should be.  The media, radio, TV, businesses, corporations, record labels, etc... they're the ones that got it wrong.

The Roots of Hip Hop event was born out of that frustration.  I wanted to let the youth know the truth and see Hip Hop in its essence, with all 4 elements.  I'm not sure if we accomplished that, but there is always room to grow and the next event will be that much greater because of that growth.  Hip Hop will be that much greater because of that growth, as well.  From a battle rapper, to a backpack rapper to an emcee.  I believe I've grown as an artist, just the same way Hip Hop as grown from the South Bronx to nearly every country in the world.  I was just glad Hip Hop has now found its way to Mecca, CA for the next generation to see.

Featuring production by the young phenom Rmur Beats, the Number Ground Theory EP is a bridge between classic boom bap and new school flavor. Written entirely by Era, in the span of 2 weeks during morning bus rides to work, we find the emcee delivering some of the most honest words in hip hop. 9 Tracks have made the cut and the Number Ground Theory EP will be a great shift in the direction that hip hop is currently headed in. We also see Era take a different direction, meshing the lyrical content of previous releases, Paint By Numbers and Skyhorse. Fans of both groups will find a nice balance in this new release.
