This week I have the pleasure of hosting a guest mix from the mighty Fred Berthet aka <a href="https://soundcloud.com/fredberthet">dj Steef</a>. dj Steef is a Marseilles, France based producer known for making slow &amp; funky downtempo house tracks. dj Steef started out working with Biomix (organizer of “Electronic Territories” Festival, later known as “Seconde Nature”), and after composing singles with <a href="http://www.discogs.com/artist/916407-Antoine-Boull%C3%A9">Antoine Boullé</a> under the pseudonym <a href="http://www.discogs.com/Venus-Attack-Project-Venus-Attack-Project/release/428">Venus Attack Project</a> (on the label US <a href="http://www.discogs.com/label/95-Guidance-Recordings">Guidance</a>), he created the band known as <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troublemakers_(French_band)">Troublemakers</a> with his friend <a href="https://soundcloud.com/dj-oil">Lionel Corsini</a> &amp; <a href="http://www.discogs.com/artist/675835-Arnaud-Taillefer">Arnaud Taillefert</a>. After an over-welcomed first LP ("<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Doubts-Convictions-Troublemakers/dp/B00005AVOK">Doubts and Convictions</a>" on <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guidance_Recordings">Guidance Recordings</a>) and well received worldwide, Concecration came on the second one on Blue Note (“Express Way”) pushing The Troublemakers at one of the top electronic band in the French scene.

Fred later on focused his attention on Copyshop project, influenced by the 80’s (Gomma, <a href="http://toytonics.de/">Toy Tonics</a>, <a href="https://soundcloud.com/la-dame-noir">La Dame Noir</a>, <a href="https://soundcloud.com/numomentrecordings">Numoment</a>...). Producing now under dj Steef its was the occasion to synthesize his musical roots such as 80’s electro pop, poisonous disco, classy french influences, insistent downtempo and up warding house. Fred has found in his alter ego dj Steef the perfect combination of incredible fat, slow, funky downtempo house tracks that every body is so crazy about. As Gomma label boss says on him its not about fashion but clearly about style and that's why we all love his production stamped <a href="http://www.discogs.com/label/381733-Biomix">Biomix</a>, in the shadows, under cover &amp; simply outstanding.

He's released some great stuff before 2007 on labels like Tome Bone or Groove Pressure and has got back to business with a killer ep (Did Virgo feat Johanna 'Come to my galaxy') on one of our fav labels, La Dame Noir for which he also did a great

He's recorded and exclusive 2 hour mix for our series and our show at Rinoceronte Fm Radio and as we expected, stunning mix.

Play Pal Mix 006: Did Virgo (La Dame Noir / FR)

Giorgio Giri & Marco Lentano aka Mushrooms Project are most known for their slow, druggy, chunky mid tempo productions but they've been vinyl junkies even before they met in 2003 so they enjoy and play all kinds of different stuff like they do in this mix for our show at Rinoceronte fm Radio.

They've released music on great labels such as Bear funk, Under the Shade, Leng just to name a few and we also had the pleasure to release a stunning ep last year called 'Sake', which will have a remixes ep, coming up in the next months, including a new original track and remixes by Duncan Gray, Avanti, Mijo, Vox Low, Phoresky, Teniente Castillo and Dynamicron.

They are already working on a new album, a collaboration with Paul Murphy to be released on Claremont 56.

Play Pal Mix 008: Mushrooms Project (Leng/Is It Balearic? / IT)

Every year we get to know new producers and labels that catch our attention, and Future Bones and Tici Taci rec. are without no doubt in that list, all the way up to the top.

They released their first self titled EP in March of this year on Tici Taci Records, followed by 2 more releases, 'Pain killer' and 'Dirty profit' and have done remixes for Rich Lane, Tronik Youth and Duncan Gray (this last one to be released in December 2014).  We will be also releasing a track of them on Play Pal's new comp, beginning of next year and are excited to know it will just be the first one.

A unique blend of electronica, live instruments and vocals that makes them definitively one of our favourite artists of the moment and it's our pleasure to consider them part of the Play Pal crew.

Future Bones Collection 2014

One of the good surprises from 2014 was finding out about these two french producers or more fairly, musicians. It is not common being so known within our scene and haven't yet released almost any of your tracks but that's the case of these 2 guys. They've been focusing on producing for 2 years and it is now when several of their best jobs will finally see the light.

The only track they've released so far it's a remix they did of the tune 'Tears' by Date With Elvis, earlier released on La Dame Noir Rec. Starting next month, we'll be finally seeing their debut on Astro Lab with the track 'I Wanna See The Light' (only Ivan Smagghe's remix has been released so far), an outstanding remix of Mushrooms Project's 'Yess' we'll have the pleasure to include on the next Play Pal Ep and in March, finally their debut on Correspondant with the track that got the attention of most of us, 'Something Is Wrong', already an anthem for some of us who've been playing it for a year. On top of all that, we'll be including their track 'Galactic Pot Healer' on Play Pal's next comp out in April. And that's just the beginning of the year.
Their sound could be described as a cross between new wave, psychedelia, a passion for synths and anything in between as showed in the mix they've recorded for our Series. The first hour more conceived as a selection of tracks and the second one as a proper mix.

Really happy to have them on board on the label, definitively one of the artists to watch out in 2015 and the following years.

When you already like a producer's work very much, have been playing his tracks for many years, know he's one of the references in our scene and looking for more detailed info to use on this text, the first thing you read on his bio is this: "Tronik Youth has remixed over 75 records over the last ten years and released over a dozen singles", not sure what else can you add to that...but to mention also Nein Records, the label he runs with his friend and partner Ian Considine since 2012, has also become one of the main labels within our scene, counting both with renowned and young artists but keeping always the quality of their releases at the top.

Like the 2 hours set he's recorded exclusively for us, full of great unreleased and released stuff.
