Vocalist par excellence John Grant joins Hercules & Love Affair for their new single 'I Try To Talk To You' - taken from the forthcoming album 'The Feast Of The Broken Heart' released on the 26th May.

The first vocal collaboration of the new album's recording sessions, John's sexy tomcat voice and lyrical ability for translating hardship into elegance lent themselves greatly to the new album. 

Andy Butler explains: "I asked John to dig deep with his lyrical contribution. I had no idea he would dig so deep. He tackled the story of becoming HIV positive, and while I mentioned to him that he did not need to go there if he was not comfortable, in that beautifully punky, spirited and courageous way he has about him, he told me that was what the song was going to be about. What came of it is an elegant song featuring John singing and playing his heart out.”

'I Try To Talk To You' will be released with remixes on the 9th June.

'Think' is taken from forthcoming album 'Feast of the Broken Heart' - released worldwide on 26th May.

 "Think" was a song written by Rouge Mary and myself in a hotel room after a gig in Zurich. It was our first collaboration. In my mind the song is the most unusual on the record with a kind of bouncy broken feel. The pads at the beginning were inspired by a song from a mix tape that has existed in my head since I was a 15 year old. It has the message of showing up courageously for what life brings you.; with directives like "deal", "work", "fight" in lyrics- it displays where Rouge Mary cut his chops- in church. "  Andy.

Hercules & Love Affair’s new album ‘The Feast Of The Broken Heart’ (released 26th May / pre-order here georiot.co/3mv7) sees another musical reinvention from ringmaster Andy Butler - delivered by an impeccable new line up.  

The ever-revolving collective led house music’s resurgence with club anthem ‘Blind’ in 2008 (Pitchfork’s record of the year), and 2014’s line up is another roll call of exceptionally talented vocalists. Brits nominee John Grant’s ability for translating hardship into elegance is writ large on ‘I Try To Talk To You’ and ‘Liberty’;  Rouge Mary, whose deep, spiritual voice is hewn from a gospel education; Belgian singer Gustaph whose counter tenor takes lead on the single ‘Do You Feel The Same?’ and smoky voiced virtuoso Krystle Warren, who was introduced to Butler by Grant, and sings the provocative ‘My Offence’.
 
Andy Butler comments: “I wanted nasty basslines, stormy, bleary-eyed sounds, fiery, rough, tough and ragged old school house productions that sounded almost techno. I didn’t want polite, I wanted aggressive.”

This aesthetic coupled with tales of emotional triumph makes for something tough yet soulful. Meaningful house music that IS pop music and can speak to the most musically adroit of tastes.
