Accompanied by his synthesizers and two of the best Estonian jazz musicians, bassist Mihkel Mälgand and drummer Ahto Abner, Tõnu Naissoo began recording his album “Different Directions” in the autumn of 2019 at the legendary Linnahall studio that he had booked for that purpose several years in advance. The new tracks he composed for the album flow from jazz-rock to smooth jazz, lingering briefly on the frequency of free jazz.
The popular Estonian jazz pianist Tõnu Naissoo was born in Tallinn, Estonia in 1951. His father Uno Naissoo was a renowned composer and an organizer of jazz festivals, who encouraged Tõnu to take an interest in jazz and improvisation. By the age of 15 he had already begun participating in local jazz orchestra. He performed first time with his trio and presented his jazz music compositions at the international Tallinn Jazz Festival of 1967 in Tallinn. The next year he was given an opportunity to record his own album. Since then he has dedicated himself to jazz music and recorded around 30 albums that have been released in Estonia, Japan and Russia.
“Different Directions” feels like Tõnu Naissoo’s ’missing piece’ album from the 1980s. It will be a worthy addition to Tõnu Naissoo’s and Frotee’s discography.

Night Young label head, Muning, is back with a vibrant EP entitled Cuerpo B. The five tracks collected here were plucked from sessions as long ago as 2015 and as recently as just last year. Despite being recorded so sporadically over the past six years, the tracks form a cohesive whole which displays Muning's varied and complex production styles. Each of the tracks presented on Cuerpo B are deeply personal, warm, and evocative. From the shuffling, propulsive opener "Autoestima" to the yearning, heartfelt lilt of "Through The Hourglass" to the glimmering, effervescent funk of "Calvary Hotel" Muning wears his heart on his sleeve while painting scenes of love, loss, hope, and frustration.The EP ebbs and flows nicely as it progresses; creating peaks and valleys, dark days and picturesque sunrises. Each bit of delightfully sunny synth melody is perfectly counterbalanced by a mournful sample or emotionally impactful chord progression. Muning manages to deftly combine elements of house, new age, ambient, and funk to create something unique, impactful, and necessary.

To leave a durable sonic footprint, one that matters, one that after ten years of cohesive activism in the field of so-called ‘dance music’ would make the voyage and vehicle worth the body and soul breathed into it. A gratifyingly sustainable vision for the club and not, enjoining the picky home-listener and basement insurgent to unite over reels of finespun electronics, minutely put together to weave the most immersive of experiences.

Since its inception in October 2011, Noorden has aimed at crafting time-proof pieces of sound, easing its audience in a continuously shape-shifting vortex of abstract-leaning programmings and genre-unbound grooves, faux-organic folds and barrages of borderline seditious versatility. Iconoclastic by nature, the label celebrates its tenth anniversary with this eleven-track Compilation, gathering a cast of close friends and collaborators who have all made their contribution in the rise and development of Noorden as an idiosyncratic musical vessel.

Spanning all styles electronic, from techno to ambient music, via all kinds of off-piste oddities, house-y, kosmische, spacious or claustrophobic, epic-sized and intimate, “NOO11—21” captures a widescreen snapshot of the label’s immediate reality, and exhibits its role as a bold-minded hub for like-minded artists, each of whom have been cutting their own path of differentiation in a world increasingly drawn towards uniformity and obedience to the standard in force.

Après quelques éditions forcées à l’arrêt, repoussées, reprogrammées en été, le festival Sonic Protest revient en ce début de printemps 2022 pour tout un mois de célébrations des musiques et des sonorités improvisées, électroacoustiques, bruitistes ou encore expérimentales. Le festival aura lieu du 15 mars au 3 avril, à Paris, autour, et ailleurs comme par exemple à Metz, Nantes, Marseille, Lyon, Bourges, Bourogne et Poitiers.
Pour le célébrer, l’émission de ce soir est composée par Plein Soleil, l’identité sous laquelle compose Jonathan Grandcollot, par ailleurs batteur au sein du groupe Société Etrange, et qui détaille ici une heure de ses musiques aimées en attendant son concert le samedi 2 avril au Théâtre de L’échangeur à Bagnolet. Attention, ça commence.
