Leaves Keep On Turning Set

This was a set I reccorded after the untimely death of one of my dance music idols, the great Frankie Knuckles. This set contains both classics as well as some more current tracks that he produced.

For this installment of my chill series I found inspiration the moment I heard a vocodered voice singing Hotel California in the Luxxury edit. A week later I heard AfroQBen's amazing remix of Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith and I was off to the races. Being a New Wave kid as a teen I didn't get into many of these songs until my adult years and yet somehow I listen to this mix and it makes me feel like a teenager again.

The Mog's heard a lot of DJs play a lot of music genres over the years, but there's one style that it always comes back to -- breaks. Yep, when the Mog made the bold decision to give up its profession as a gainfully employed radio truck and pursue its dream of becoming the playa's very first mobile DJ sound system, it did so marching to a broken beat. The year the Mog turns 40, and while it may be getting a little long in the sprocket it still hasn't lost its passion for fat nasty basslines with an amen!

So to celebrate its birthday, I'm giving the Mog the next best thing to a pony. Here's 40 tracks (and a few more for good luck) of breaks, new and old, including many the Mog heard for the first time on vinyl back when it was rockin Technic 1200s in the DJ booth instead of CDJs.

"Earlier this year I was asked to put together a mix by Zach Moore for The Armory Podcast. After primarily playing out ghetto funk and breaks for the previous couple of years I was excited to bust out a batch of tech house type tracks I had come across. Inspiration comes along when you least expect it though and I ended up setting aside this version of the mix and updated it with a new and different direction. Months went by and I completely forgot about this unreleased version. I came upon it again recently at home and thought this would be a fun chance for people to see how my creative process works and a DJs sound can evolve." - Deckard

There's a new wave of chopped, stretched, bass soaked remixes coming out -- twists on old icon's old classics by new house producers that feature just enough of the original to make me smile, but enough new production to feel fresh. This mix = a bunch of that, plus some other stuff that I found hanging out on my hard drive the week before last, when Space Cowboys dropped by The New Parish for a party we called Oakland Proper.

It’s burning man fundraiser time, and Jenny’s 40th birthday party to boot. Cowboys ponied up to contribute a portion of the proceeds to the Flux Foundation and the Temple of Promise. And I was lucky enough to get asked to play.
I was opening up on the main stage, which has a Funktion One sound system, which tickled my urge to play some bass music. Being the opener I started it off slow, and rampped it up for a handoff to Shizzy and Kirk.
The party was off the chain. shOOey did it right for shOOnanigans!

Party Liberation Fronts 10 year anniversary SOLD OUT party at Diversity Richmond VA. 3am set right after " Sultans " so I keep it bass heavy and didn't want to completely kill the vibe or the crowd. After having a memorable night of dancing for 7 hours I wanted to give the crowd a consensual pulse to end their night off and we have THIS !

PLF Decemberween NYE 2016 - Dj GON

10:30 pm post lake burn Friday Nite, Transformus 2016.  The Dance Magic was thick, and the night spiraled into joyous insanity and wonder.  

Some producers have several tracks in this mix that were fresh off the presses, couldn't help but play more than a couple from each :)

Funked Up - Akasha Friday Night PLF Set 2016

Late night Thursday and into Friday Sunrise.  An amazing night, and only the first of what was an Epic Transformus 2016.  The music for me was playing as the soundtrack of the mountain as it lifted off into outer space for the weekend.

Recording of my set from Party Liberation Front camp at Transformus XIII / 2016, a regional Burning Man Gathering outside of Asheville. I played a similar set a few weeks earlier using the same tracklisting at Camp Neon 5. 
This is not a live recording as much as I would have liked to do so but for he very first time I was running Pyrotechnics/Lights through Touch OSC/DMXIS/Ableton ;) So I was not going to risk crashing the whole show just to record live. 
This mix is a stepping stone to me as an artist with a Original towards the end.
