Based in and around Richmond-Upon-Thames, classified as Indie, Dream Pop or Futuristic Folk by some North American radio stations, our friends will tell you Soft Cotton County has a few additional colours in the mix that can sometimes transfer to other delicates.
 
 
Flitting between indie labels since the last century, with a host of talented guest performers, this project was primarily a vehicle for Andy Coombs’ songwriting.
 
 
Andy connected with 5000 Records in 2009 when he sent a selection of his songs to several independent labels. A few replied positively, but only Sascha Panknin at 5000 made an immediate offer to release an album of remixed versions.
 
 
Consequently, re-imagined with the eponymous album on 5000 Records, there have been four Soft Cotton County EPs on the label to date. All met with critical acclaim.
 
 
A song-driven band. Since their 1st album, they have gradually been moving towards the light. 
 
 
10 Years of Travel was the long-awaited 2nd album released in 2024

The night before meeting a girl at the fair, a young man gets into a fight and accidently seriously injures the other party. He doesn’t know whether to run or not. The next day, misinterpreting his edginess, everyone thinks he fears romantic commitment.  
 
I completed the core of this song and did a rough demo a long time ago, but was never happy with the lyric until I realised it was not just about someone unable to express their feelings.
 
Slowly I revamped the music and revisited the words. Shira did a run through to my backing track at her place. The main vocals were recorded at mine and then finally engineered and mixed at Sascha’s in Twickenham in 2023. - Andy Coombs – Words and music

Shira Fox is from Hertfordshire, was born in Johannesburg and currently lives in NW London.
 
Sascha Panknin is from Hamburg and has lived for many years in Spain and later in and around the Borough of Richmond upon Thames, Greater London.
 
Andy Coombs is originally from NW London, spent much of his adult life in Richmond Upon Thames and Twickenham. He recently moved to Shepperton.
