:: Welcome back Bruno! How are you?
Feels good to be back, for the obvious reasons.
Been working a lot lately, both on music and graphic design. Between managing P/N and helping out some friend labels I keep myself busy, but doing freelance design works for a living is what takes the biggest chunk of my daily timespan. So I'm deeply tired lately, but it's all very rewarding in the end. And it will surely pay off in the long run.

:: How's 2013 so far? What have you been doing?
These last 2 years have been some of the bumpiest of my life. Between serious family problems and money issues, it has certainly not been easy. I keep my head filled with stuff to do, and I try to keep my optimism as high as possible.
Regarding Pluie/Noir, a lot of delays have been happening in the past regarding production, and I also realized I needed to focus my attention on some artists and lay-off others that were with us in the beginning. I slowly realized I needed to do a re-structure on the imprint and the companies we've been working on. So we have a fixed collective now that keeps me happy and engaged, a new mastering engineer and studio (Pole at his Scape Mastering Studio), a new factory and I'll probably sign new deals with 2 different distributors soon. One to tag along Intergroove on the main label, and a new distributor for the Experimental Media side-project as I have serious plans for it in a near future. My focus will slowly pan towards this project later this year and follow my dreams of releasing quality experimental music on various media formats, for the sake of music itself and pure creative freedom - which most labels lack nowadays.
The PNR003 compilation is finally out in a few weeks and even though it seemed like a crazy move, I felt in my heart I had to put it out, for me and for the future of the artists I'm working with, who are all very humble and dedicated. It's a celebration of that, a year of work with wonderful people, and it deserved all my attention and sweat.

:: Portugal's still one of Europe's most affected countries by the economical crisis. How are you handling?
I'm not, to be honest. My life has been super hard specially due to lack of money to survive. Getting a proper job is next to impossible, and if you do most of the times you'll be underpaid, and explored to the maximum. And if you feel you're being exploited, you're kindly invited to leave as there's always people ready to take your place and work for a few bucks (or for free), specially recently graduated students. Housing is expensive in Lisbon, specially if you consider our minimum wage is currently below 500€.
I got a part-time job this year, it was ok and all but I quit it after a month due to a conflict of interests between me and my own boss. Very different views on creativity and work ethics made it unbearable, unfortunately.
So I decided to move out and leave Portugal behind. It's hard to leave family, beloved ones and friends, but I need to move on and embrace new opportunities, wipe the slate clean. Apart from Tokyo, Paris is one of the cities I always felt extremely attracted to, so I'm currently learning french, looking for a job, and planning my move to Paris as soon as possible. 

:: What's the main idea behind your podcast, when and how was it recorded?
I'm attracted to the Asian culture since I can remember, specially Japan. I can't really explain why or how this happened as all I know was self-discovered. My parents have no particular interest in the "eastern world", so it's something genetic or simply unexplainable. I think it all started with this album my father had from Jean Michel Jarre, "The Concerts in China". I felt drawn to the visual acuity of it, and started exploring a lot of the Asian culture, Japan in particular. Movies, series, animations, books, social history and social habits, I'm just fascinated by it. My ultimate wish is to live in a super high-story flat in Tokyo for some years, and have a typically japanese, almost feudal-era type of house in a forest around Kyoto for the weekends. 
That very personal interest led me to this podcast, and I hate to repeat myself in a podcast series I curate and manage myself, so I like to set the personal tone and do something completely different and unexpected. So in the end it's an homage to Japan, and my respect for it's artists, to some of whom I am fortunate enough to work with today! I approached Jav and sent her the first and last track of my podcast, setting a tone. After some long conversations we both seemed to be mutually inspired to this idea and my entire session revolved around these 2 tracks, very much like Jav's hand-drawn work. Was a great collab and we felt both very in-tune with the "spirituality" of the whole thing.
All the music you hear in this podcast is either from Japan or China, composers, song-writers, producers, or artists who worked with asian composers in the past and/or present (like David Sylvian, for instance).

:: Plans for the future?
My first vinyl releases are on the line, at last. A single + remix on a friend label, the first Pluie/Noir Collective vinyl collaboration with Rack, Marc Neyen and No Hype, my first (mini?) album on Pluie/Noir, and a couple of remixes on vinyl too. There's also an upcoming album on Archipel and a tools EP on Kalimari. So this year and beginning of 2014 I'm definitely marking my comeback as a full-fledged producer (musician?) with more personal productions and a slow brake on remixing. I'm starting violin and guitar lessons too as soon as possible.
Regarding Pluie/Noir, if all goes as I plan it will move with me to Paris and have a fixed address, a headquarters of somekind. Joining forces with Marc Milner "in situ" and co-working with Improvist seems highly promising to me. 
Our releases will start happening more regularly (2-3 months each), and we'll try and fix some club residencies around europe for pluie/noir showcases and art exhibitions. PNEM will release more cassettes, compilations and personal albums, and some picture 7" / 10" vinyls in the future. Our first PNEM vinyl will be from Yoshihiro Hanno (aka Radiq), a vinyl re-issue with some lost experimental pearls from the prolific producer that I adore and admire, only released in digital/cd till now. 
Well, that's just the tip of the iceberg and it's a lot already. Cheers :)

Been amazing these days thanks! Specially since it’s the beginning of a 4 day weekend! 

:: Art seems to take a big chunk out of your timeline. What is consuming your time lately? 
As of late it was the PN Podcast with none other than Bruno/Cleymoore working on the music! The last 2 weeks have been a ride. Definitely made a strong emotional connection with Bruno/Cleymoore’s latest work. A few other projects that I started working on but drifted away from. Very special Pakistan relative piece coming so watch out for that! 

:: Photography and you're hand-drawn micro-detailed art are becoming a visual cue for you, somehow a very vindicated visual signature. Are you considering doing some exhibitions soon?
Thank you! I have toyed with that idea, but I haven’t really gotten around to implementing it yet. It’s a very intimidating thought having your work out there. Exciting too! But we’ll say how that plays out! The thought does make me smile! Right now it feels amazing enough that there are people out there who really do appreciate my work! Maybe soon if the ball keeps rolling? 

:: Once again, you're triptych shows your hand-drawing skills and high level of attention to detail. When and how did you make this triptych?
Thanks! Bruno approached me a couple of weeks ago as he needed a visual! Which is just absolutely amazing in itself. But then he sent me the very first and very last tracks of his podcast, to get a feel. And since then I’ve just been HOOKED! After an hour long conversation which was SUPER SPECIAL and really getting in to it, I’ve spent after work everyday (or even at work sometimes) working on putting together my feelings on paper for this podcast which has come to become very special to me over the last 15 days. It truly is a piece of magic that Cleymoore has created! Keeping true to what's now becoming a point of view, I created a back and white visual using only pen only on this piece. 2 long weeks, 4 days of 8 to 12 hour days just doing this, it's finally done. I think I'n happy with it, hope you guys enjoy it! 

:: Future plans?
Working by day, doing art by night seems to be the way forward! Going to try my best to get back into the photography too! Maybe another piece for P/N? Who knows!  Whatever it is though I think it'll be a good time and is going to get better!

‘For home use only’ is an anti-club social, a chance to get to know someone/something. A series of transmissions purely dedicated to exploring the other side.

So, here we are again, partaking in part-time life with a part-time attitude. Who’s up for a little break? God knows we all need one. Considering how chaotic things are at the moment I think it's time we get a bit of respite in our lives, in the form of an audible vacation. Sit back, sip an imaginary cocktail on a fictional deckchair, on the deck of a mythical cruise ship.
The captains of this cruise are Chomley, the terrible twosome, on their never-ending quest to make your life that little bit better. 

The Naarm based duo are fluent in fairytales, putting the mind at ease and your feet to good use, weaponising their talents across all different types of dance floors. Their mix’s hit every single time and this one hits hardest of all. 

I think I’ve (subconsciously) kept this mix to myself, because I find it so special. I’ve had to snap myself out of the greed and let the world experience the profound beauty of the 4 hours that follow, after a click of the play button. It truly encapsulates the aesthetic of FHUO and then transcends it; A mood for every day of the week, uncovered gems in every playthrough, truly a gift that will keep on giving long into the future.

This mix has been my rock for the past few months now. 
Things are pretty dicey out there, and this has been pure solace, a sense of romantic respite in such a chaotic time. 

Alas, no longer should this be enjoyed by me solely, it’s time for you to take the plunge.

Live from Berlin: Cosmo Vitelli is at the studio!

Exploring the fringes betwixt indie/prog-rock-infused melodic soundscapes and daringly off-kilter electronics, French disc jockey and producer Cosmo Vitelli's name has become synonymous with deep, no-holds-barred forays into uncharted territories and full body-&-soul sonic immersion. Schooled by the sound of guitars, it’s when confronted to a 4-track tape recorder that young Cosmo experienced an epiphany, which resulted in him dabbling in production as French Touch was soaring towards worldwide popular acclaim. Released in 1998, his eponymous debut for Etienne de Crécy’s Disques Solid launched his career, soon followed by an array of extended players and remixes that established him as one of the spearheads of the French electronic scene on an international scale.
 
Taking a sharp turn back to the leftfield after a ruthless stint in the arcane world of the majors, Cosmo Vitelli created his record label I’m a Cliché in 2004. Always a step ahead of his time and contemporaries, the Frenchman’s made it his signature to scout artists on the rise - Simian Mobile Disco, Azari & III, Yuksek, Moscoman, Red Axes to name but a few - offering them bespoke support and assistance to climb the ladder towards wider recognition. In parallel to his label-running venture, Cosmo went back to the basics with Bot’Ox, his joint project with Tekel’s Julien Briffaz. Merging alternative pop harmonics with a rock sensibility of varying scale and synth-heavy precision mechanics, the duo’s graced the grooves of labels as diverse and highly regarded as DFA and DC Recordings, eventually landing a gig at the legendary Olympia in Paris.
 
Now working from his Berlin studio, Cosmo Vitelli immerses himself in the heart of the vibrant European electronic music scene. Over recent years, he has left his mark with noteworthy releases and remixes on labels such as I’m a Cliché, Edit Service, Les Disques de la Mort. Among his standout releases are the two EPs 'Holiday In Panikstrasse' on Malka Tuti. Rather than conforming to formulaic and DJ-friendly beats, Cosmo's focus is on sound, deeply immersing himself in production, working towards aesthetic unity in each release, and refining his craft with each new record. 
 
In 2020, he curated a triple-LP VA compilation entitled 'Bongo Beats & Bankruptcy: The Sound of I’m A Cliché', released during the peak of European lockdowns, before releasing another EP under his name, 'As She Rolled Another’.
 
In 2022 he finally delivered his third album, 'Medhead', featuring eight cuts, five of them with vocalist Truus de Groot from the Dutch new/no-wave outfit Plus Instruments, 'Medhead' saw Cosmo liberated from conventional confines and arbitrary labels, effortlessly traversing various genres—from slow-drip kraut to intoxicating disco, murky motel-pop, neo-kosmische, hip-hop, industrial, and revamped indie-rock elements. This was followed the next year by an album of Medhead remixes by up-and-coming and well-established producers, including Krikor, Froid Dub or Khidja's Andrei Rusu.
 
In 2024, Cosmo Vitelli will have a busy year with the release of two collaborative albums. 
'Dopamine Dreams', set for release in March, renews his creative partnership with Truus de Groot, through a full collaboration authored equally by both artists. The dream-like soundscapes, enhanced by de Groot's vocals, evoke moods reminiscent of the 70s and 80s, with a timeless, debonair, and almost sardonic attitude. The next step in Cosmo Vitelli’s focus on high production values, Dopamine Dreams invites listeners to delve into its melodic and emotional depths.
 
This will be followed in September 2024 by a brand new album created with his Bot’Ox partner in crime Julien Briffaz after the project was left on standby for almost a decade.

For the 62nd interpretation of Far Blue, we have the talented duo Javier Salazar who have put together something special. It's one of the more experimental perceptions of the concept, weaving together downtempo, ambient and abstract sounds. Besides running the inspiring Klape Nunsen label, they are amazing selectors when it comes to the deeper and dubby sounds. This mix showcases how subtly they create an atmosphere that makes you float.

"Settled in the studio, we started playing records we felt like sharing. Each of us behind a turntable, doodling without anything specific in mind, occasionally at the same time letting sounds overlap. One of us pressed the record button, and we simply let it unfold, free of knowing where it would lead. We rarely felt so immersed in a recording, selecting each track in the moment. Depth, imperfections and unexpected blends."

Seeking collective dreaming and dancing through psychedelia of the past, the present and the future, lustfull and moving grooves. Located in zurich, he works as a booker at Zentralwäscherei and is part of the collective regula which makes raves and releases music from time to time.
